here's some footage I tossed together.
the stuff with the couple is unhacked footage, no color correction.
the other stuff is with the new hack I installed last night.. in this video (of course its compressed) but the raw footage is 95mbps bit rate.

it wasn't meant as any kind of comparison. Unless I misread where I said that, because I don't remember doing so.
I'm sure the footage is fine either way, noone i''ve showed it to would know the difference anyway, only pixel peepers really.
(that sounded more harsh than I intended. I just meant that this was in no way meant to be a comparison. I just labeled the footage so people watching it would know what the differences are, since its impossible to tell online.)

from what I was told by many of its users, is that it will hold up alot better to color correction.

In the unhacked footage I see too much green in skin tones, perhaps an overall slight green cast. This is a somewhat common complaint I've seen in some GH2 postings. But in the "hacked" footage, even though we are not looking at the same subjects I see much cleaner color overall. The dog is rendered with very clean whites, crisp blacks and the red cloth looks rendered just vivid enough.
The unhacked footage most of the way through almost looked as if it had been shot under flourescent lighting which would explain the greenish look, flourescents are often red deficient. The last shot of the woman where she was under tungsten (or so it looked) showed better skin tones.
Just some observations.

Bruce, i was using CFL's in softboxes so that probably explains that!

I use CFLs quite a bit but I only purchase the "Bright White" which are probably pretty close to daylight balance. You might look for them, I get mine in Home Depot. I get no green cast at all with those.
But that would explain that green cast. And that wasn't a criticism, just an observation. I was very impressed with what looked like "clean" colors with the "hacked" portion of the test.

Oh I know. I'm very impressed with this camera. Its been a pretty smooth transition and I have alot more lenses to use with it since I already had 2-3 fd lenses from when I had a 35mm adapter that I couldn't use with my T2i. I just need to get some higher speed cards because the slower cards don't perform too well at this higher bit rate. I'll be doing some more tests soon.

Sweet. I told you that camera rocks. Wait until you try GOP1 intra codec hack. It requires a massive amount of space, but if you are shooting a movie I think a couple of 32Gb cards and some drives to store you cards' data after a day's work should get you by. Can't wait to see the first actual footage from your new movie.
If you can make yourself afford them, I would go with the new SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s cards. They ought to be able to handle anything the camera "shoves" at them. I've been getting 16GB cards for $59.99 and the 32GB media runs $129.99 at B&H. A couple weeks ago I picked up a couple of SanDisk Extreme 16GB 30MB/s cards for $26.95 on sale. Now they are $29.95 and the 32GB is $56.95.
If you're on a budget I think those should work for you too.
Good luck

I don't see how they can be "required" since they just came out a few months ago. I had been buying the SanDisk Extreme Pro 45MB/s from B&H and suddenly a few months ago the B&H listing showed "discontinued", Before long the 95MB/s media showed up at the same price.
I guess I look at it as a bit of "futureproofing". Nothing in the Canon's "requires" that kind of speed, but who knows what's coming "down the pike"?

I was thinking the hack that malfunctioning human is referring to records at 176mbps. Someone on dvxuser posted that and also suggested those same cards.

Yes, that's right. That hack goes through cards really fast. But people claim it's worth it (awesome picture quality and fast editing.)

Glad to see you pulled the trigger on the GH2 azmyth!Try to get yourself a fd 35mm f2.0 prime lens, it's really nice!
I stopped by my dad's today to check up on him and remembered that i had the lens and camera in the car so I thought I do some test with this ML hack. Not sure if I hit all the focus points but I was trying to use the focus assist from ML. The FD 135mm is a fast lens and I think it will look great on a GH2 giving a sharper look right out of the cam.

Oh snap! I just connected my GH2 to a 22" HD monitor and monitored it during recording. This is epic.
I also got a new shoulder rig in. Those cowboy studio deals that I've been reading reviews about. The guy who shot the awesome GH2 feature MUSGO used one and recommended it to me. Its pretty darn awesome for 30 bucks.. Very sturdy and not too heavy. Easy to mount the camera, and fairly ergonomic. If you don't want to DIY a shoulder rig and don't have alot of dough.. you can't beat it for the price.
