Default Would this PC be adequet to run Premiere 5.5?

Looking to build a new computer, and among the other things I'd like to use it for, video editing is definitely near the top. Any suggestions on improvements to performance, or equal performance with decreased cost would be greatly welcomed.

Edit: One thing forgot to mention: Already have other harddrives, as why they weren't included in the build.

Well, i dont know for sure if it's been fixed but with the cs5 earlier release you had to have a nvidia cuda card with 1gb or more to utilize the mercury acceleration.

Perhaps i will go in also for 16Gb of RAm rather than the 8 you got just to be on the safer side. Really like the 3.7gnz quad although i know there are six and more cores. But hey cost here is also a great factor.

Too much other stuff I use is Windows only. Also, I don't particularly care for Apples interface. If I were to go with any non-windows OS, it would be some version of Linux, which I may still do some day.

As for the motherboard, if I switched to that one, I'd have to go to an Intel processor, which to get the same core clock would be well over double the price.

There's 16gigs of ram there. It's just in 2 8gig packs of 2 4gig sticks, for a total of 4 4gig sticks. From what I've read about the 6-cores is that software doesn't fully utilize them yet, so I went with the higher clocked quad-core. But because the board is am3+, there's room to expand to a 6-core in the future.

Swap that ATI/AMD GPU for anything with Nvidia/Cuda cores (a budget GT or even a GTX would suffice) will allow you to render H264 much quicker, and make use of Premiere CS5's Mercury Playback engine.

Something I still don't quite understand between AMD and Nvidia cards. What is the difference between steam processing units, and processing cores?

CUDA= the term for a joint development between two companies to give you a more efficient method of video processing. Nvidia is part of the team, AMD is not...yet.

I don't recognized the first part of your question but the more cores your GPU has the better since data can carry on processes in parallel.

Is windows professional better than home premium ?
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Not particularly. But a friend can hook me up with a copy of professional for next to nothing. Only included it on newegg because it would look silly to have a build without an operating system. I fully intend to source these parts from the cheapest locations, it's just easier to make a shopping list on newegg.

Never tried pirating an operating system. Can't imagine trusting something that important to piracy.

Very wise. Windows is buggy enough as is, who knows what other nasty things the pirate distributor can sneak in there.

Well, with such a wide selection of software and hardware to chose from, there's bound to be compatibility issues.

You just gave the best argument for a closed environment.

A closed environment stagnates due to lack of competition. Innovation comes with instability.
