Default HV30 Redrock Micro M2 xflip zoom-focus issue

    Hello and Salutations dear all!

Sorry if this question already got answered, I searched but couldn't find answers, so please forgive me for possible unnecesarry bias.

Shortly, my problem is that I've recently bought the old redrock micro M2 cinematic adapter (not the encore, the older one from 2005) and when everything was assembled, along with the Xflip module accessory that helps me flips image from upside down, I am unable to focus in more.

This is a HUGE issue for me because when I turn on the camera to record, I need to zoom in until I cannot see the xflip module's interior corners of the mirorr edges. It gives me blurr, even in bright-light.

Tried messing with the focus too, no luck.

    Order:
Camera > 43-55mm step up ring > Xflip module > M2 > FD to EOS adapter ring > Canon 50mm FD lens

(I was thinking about also attaching the 72mm achromat lens between the camera and the flip module, would that solve the issue?)

Please help me solve this problem. Thanks a million in advance!

Most probably, if it's designed to be there. It helps the camera focus closer.

Thank you for that prompt reply.

Noted. But just out of curiosity, if this macro lens is placed BEFORE the flip module and between the camera, then when I zoom in with the HV30, I shouldn't be seeing the interior corners and sides of the mirroring mechanism, right?
Because by the time I zoom in so that the insides aren't visible, (whether the target is close or far, doesn't matter) is completely blurry.

    Thanks.

    Two questions:

1 - Have you focused the primary lens?

2 - Maybe the achromat should go between the DOF and flip module instead?

I don't own any of those, so other may have better suggestions.

It's absolutly MANDATORY to use an achromat lens. Without it, you will achieve the problems your having. Redrock makes a great achromat, dhg makes a good one two.

The achromat should be screwed on the camera, then the flip, then the dof adapter, then your 35mm lens.
    I'm feeling frisky!

If the achromat has the wrong focal length (i.e. it is designed for use without the flip), you may have problems.

Yeah, I had a feeling so. Thank you for the information. I need a stepup ring for my 72mm achromat macro lens, now, to fit it onto the whole set.

@Janke, to answer your question: YES and YES. I have tried manually focusing and adjusting just about everything on my lens, (it's not a zoom-in lens, just a basic Canon FD 50mm) and I think the achromat lens would most likely be better off fitting between the Cam & the flip.

Without the flip I need a workaround so the image on the lcd screen of the cam isn't upside down. I've seen the achromat lens & flip being used all together before, I think it still looks great, hopefully it'll get the job done too.

Anywho, thanks for the advice/information. Going to test everything on Wednesday and get back to you guys with results.

    Cheers. :P
