    Default Autumn leaves

This is a little test I shot today with my newest lens, a Samyang 800mm f:8 catadiopric telephoto - i.e. a mirror lens. I only paid 209 euros (approximately $280) for it, and an additional $8 for the T-mount/EOS adapter.

Looks like they work pretty well with video. I played around with a 500mm on my Nikon, but wasn't impressed with the photographical quality, so I returned it. The main problem was the fixed f/8 - needs a whole mother load of light.

Samyang now has a 500mm/6.3 version, a half stop faster. Price well under $200. I tested that also, not so super for 18 Mpix stills, but just as good as this one for videos.

Both are tricky to use; an absolutely steady tripod is a must, and focusing is a pain in the...

I opted for the 800mm version, since my set of ordinary lenses go to 300 mm.

The flower shots were from 20-30 ft, most of the trees were between 100 and 400 ft away.

    Consider that 800 mm on a crop-sensor DSLR is equal to 1280 mm on a full-frame - that's a serious telephoto lens !!!
