Huey, I'm wondering why anyone would want to put their lives at risk, just for a film - and an amateur film at that. Just sounds silly to me. Makes me wonder about their judgement.
I mean, they've asked you to ask us about something that a sensible person would only ask a fulltime professional stuntman... I'm not sure they really know what they're getting themselves into. Even if they get the best advice we can give them, are they really going to follow it to the letter? Doubt it, somehow.
If they do this, and they get killed or even hurt, I hope you don't tell us. Okay?
.
We were just talking and I offered to post here, I'm sure they'll be putting out feelers elsewhere. I did come up with some suggestions which would tell the story without showing the fall, but they didn't like any of them. Eventually, I said 'guys, I think you'll have to rewrite this, because that fall is too dangerous, but I will ask some people I know.'
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.
Sounds like they're too enamoured of their idea to listen to anybody. Huey, you should bring your famed powers of persuasion to bear on them. It usually works here.
I guess it's an object lesson to everyone else, though. A good screenwriter, novelist, or playwright should always be ready and willing to kill even his most-beloved ideas. Instead of killing himself.
One thing that comes to mind is that, if they get badly hurt or killed, what responsibility might the law place upon anyone who knew about this stunt in advance? If I were you, I'd ask them to give me a signed indemnity absolving me of all responsibility, should anything go wrong. Seriously, that's what I'd do.
Better than getting a rude shock later on, when the parents of these kids decide to get a good lawyer and sue everybody they can lay their hands on. I'll bet that's happened before.
.
Well just telling what can be done shouldn't make you responsible - the authors of the Smyth Report didn't take the blame, did they?![]()
Yes, but I'm saying Huey shouldn't underestimate the power of a clever lawyer.
A lawyer might invoke some kind of "duty of care" concept. If a person is told about some act that is potentially fatal, but he doesn't take all reasonable steps to prevent it.... I dunno, it could be used against him.
But that's just me - I'm paranoid about getting caught out.![]()

This thread title can quickly change from Stunt Fall to Stunt Fail. <--- that's actually what I the first time

I just watched a Mythbusters episode on Finnish TV about this particular subject.

Regarding cardboard boxes, have you ever heard of "paper cut"...
Maybe they can convince the Fire Brigade to do an exercise catching the guy. I would not do anything without some professional, who has done this before, saying it's OK.

Why not just greenscreen it?

The project I work on is all amateur stunts, we've done some ridiculous things but I have to side with others, 3 stories is huge. Open the budget for real precautions or settle for something else. If they could manage a hotel roof into a pool that solves a lot of issues but missing the pool isn't an option.

cardboard boxes corners cut off, matresses on top, tarpoling holding it all together. whatever happens - LAND ON YOUR BACK! As someone who did a little bit of stunt work back in the day, I can't stress enough if you hit that box rig feet first or head first, you're gonna be in a wheel chair or worse. GET A PRO IN! But if you still insist on doing it yourself - drop from one storey first, build the rig box rig again, try from the second storey.... if all goes well do the 3rd storey. Look at where you're gonna land and keep your eyes on it. Disclaimer:- DON'T DO IT - get a pro in.
I hope it all goes well and I don't see your freinds injury or death on www.liveleak.com
