Default Canon Video Cameras using EF lens

That would be awesome if it's true

Let's hope they do it right and release a large sensor (actual) video camera that fixes the aliasing and moire issues... if so, it'll be fantastic!

Or one that use at least the whole APS-C sensor, that would get rid of these bugs.
I DO IT BECAUSE I CAN. I CAN BECAUSE I WANT TO. I WANT TO BECAUSE YOU SAID I COULDN'T.

IF ONLY! It will NOT happen though, it would put Canon's video department in direct competition with Canon's own photography department, and that my friend will not be happening anytime soon, I won't say "never", but certainly not this year...

Here's praying I will have to eat my words, however I will be the first one to switch, if I'm wrong...

It looks like more garbage to me. Canonrumors stock and trade.

Forget APS-C, you'd have to be using a full frame sensor with EF lenses or you'd be an idiot. IMHO... regardless of what canonrumors posts. Why bother building a new camera that replicates what the T3i/7D do so well? And why buy a hugely expensive new camera to mate your EF lens with APS-C?

The main reasons would be form factor/ergonomics, accessible manual controls, proper inputs (XLR), proper outputs (HD-SDI, genlock/time code, etc) 50Mbps/4:2:2 color sampling and functional firmware (zebras, peaking, waveform monitor, etc)

    Other than that... why bother?

    Edit: Oh and 1080/60p

Which are available on any number of Panasonic, Sony or Canon cameras to date. If the hook was to mount EF lenses over an APS-C sensor - why bother? Just buy an XF100.

Yeah, I hear ya, more like an XF-105 (HD-SDI), but still, people (like me) have thousands invested in their EF mount lenses, and are used to the flexibility they provide, at the expense of the above, mind you.

I'm currently shooting T3i for a lot of stuff, but I've been holding out on installing the fully functional Magic Lantern Unified firmware for it, in hopes of keeping it pristine and virgin, hopefully holding it's value more, and make the jump to either the unicorn "camcorder" mentioned above in my wish list, or a full frame 5D Mark II (or III, if ever there was one) by the end of the year. Needless to say I baby the thing, not a mark on her and only about 1000 mechanical shutter actuations (no time lapse!)... but I gotta tell ya it's getting tempting to drop ML on her now that Alex is within days of having ML rewrite itself to the card in camera after format, my biggest gripe with the ML workflow besides stability.

    Alex, ML developer
I'm very close to being able to have ML rewrite itself to the card after a format. I have all the elements known, so it should be straightforward to put all of them together.

Me, too. I have 10% of the cost of a new 5D MKII saved but am likely to still be saving by the time the 5D MKIII/6D is released. I presume it will be a worthwhile improvement over 2008's 5D MKII.

That's Great DR.! I presume you mean about $250, and yeah the Mark III will undoubtedly be an updated improvement of a great & very productive camera in the Mark II, though likely without an articulating screen, which I will sorely miss having become accustomed to it with the T3i.

    If you can get one!

I'd love to have to have a cam with a 35mm sensor that is NOT a multimega megapixel DSLR sensor. While I'm impressed with the 5D's IQ, I'd love to have a cam with the handling of a "real" video camera. ...and with the low resolution, you don't necessarily need Canon's L-glass.

Yeah, that is really a sad story. Even sadder that there isn't a plan B (JVC HM100) at the moment - plan B is backordered also.

    Yeah 3-CCD would be great!

Could you settle for the JVC GY-HM100U?

    Edit: It's In Stock...

I couldn't... I'm pretty loyal to Canon (or Sony XDCAM for the big $$$) but maybe better than nothing?

There's the Panasonic AG-HMC150 1/3" Progressive CCD [AVCHD ]... oh.. nevermind, also backordered

Does it have to be B&H? Does it have to be ENG?

I really do lean towards a Sony NEX-FS100U, even over the 5d Mark III/6d... but without the bucks to outfit it, yeah... anyways... hmm go with another retailer maybe? Someone's gotta have an Canon XF100 in stock! Common!

Yes, has to be B&H, as the order is there already (and partially received), and, yes, I need an ENG cam ... and no AVCHD

Looks like the Japanese industry still has to fight with the aftermath of the earthquake. A lot of higher end cameras and lenses are on backorder. I cross my fingers that they get their problems fixed soon (not only for sake).
