Thread: Another FCP X tutorial

CG, thanks for putting all these together! I just picked up a copy of FCPX. So far it's impressed me with its ability to handle multiple codecs in the timeline as well as adding effects with ease. It's a little slow on my 2.26 GHz 13" MBP (2009) but it works pretty well. My system is also really quite messed up and slow, but I haven't reinstalled because I upgraded to Lion and had FCS2 installed, which can't install under Lion because the installer is PPC, while the actual apps are universal. When Mountain Lion comes out I'll do a clean install and that should speed things up significantly.

But, yeah, really appreciate you putting all these together. They'll be a big help with getting a head start on relearning FCP...

You are very welcome. Have fun with it.

Uhm, trouble at home? Since you're married you barely, it at all, show up any more....

Haha, no trouble, just life. Things have been pretty busy in general, and I haven't really done any video work other than recording a few things from a static angle for church.

I'll have to try to drop by more often, then

I'll also certainly be sharing my footage from the upcoming shoot I'm doing.

Editing in FCP X is pretty fast. Ben Balser shows some tricks how you can get even more speed out of your trimmings.

This is a tutorial on what I like most about X - the speed of sorting out media. What they forget to mention is that you can set a couple of I/O points in a clip by just making severe section a favorite.

Once you are done with the sorting, you simply plant the chosen clips into your storyline with the q,w and/or e keys. Putting together your rough cut without ever touching the mouse/trackpad.

10.0.6 came only out yesterday, but Rippletraining already has an in depth training on the new (and absolutely great!) features. The two-hour tutorials cost 25 bucks in the 720p version, 1080p is 30 bucks.

Steve Martin's dry humor ("it is like searching for a piece of hay in a stack of needles") is included in the package for free.

RippleTraining also updated the 5-hour intro course and offered at a discount to legacy owners. It looks like the file (disk image) download hasn't changed, only the Quicktime tutorial files.

Ah bummer though, it seems they raised there prices a bit.

Not a big deal, definitely still a great value there.

I wonder when they'll re-release a value pack with all the courses included...

They are still pretty much the cheapest on the market. Larry, MPV, Lynda are all more expensive. You can get a good part of the Rippletraining for free on McBreak Studio.

CG, thanks for posting these. I had a look at the one about audio and, I have to say, it looks fiddly to me. I think I'm really going to miss the mixer when I make the switch.
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.
