Default Red has the new Canon mount in it's store for preorder. Ships in September.

The mount costs 2K. It's a smart mount, lets you use electronic focus, iris, etc. and tags metadata to the footage.

there is already support for a wide range of canon glass.

Red camera owners are excited because they can use cheap canon lenses (cheap compared to PL mount cine lenses).

The mount is made from Titanium, and has an extra twist to make sure the lens is tight.

Funny, since I believe NOT having this mount for sale back in the day was the main reason I canceled my RED ONE reservation ~#940.

(They originally "promised" it, then changed their minds...)

Aye! There's a REASON they never mention the year.

    ---

Every now and then I get interested in a GREAT video camera, and check out what's new over at RED.com.
Unfortunately I still get put off immediately by their super-mega-groovy-coolness of the gas mask on the front page, the Bomb™, Stage™ etc. etc.

If I ever do buy something from them, I'll have to go through a purchasing agent, because I could NEVER get past their web-design...

That's why I sometimes refer to their products as being a fetish. The uber-industrial, butch CNC machining, and nerdboy naming convention appeals greatly to some.

They are rolling out product now. The Epic-M is available in the store right now. Epic-X should be available soon.

Epic-M is a hand assembled camera, X is the same camera made on a production line. What's the difference, and why are some people waiting on X instead of just ordering an M? I'm not really sure.

The "affordable" camera, the Scarlet, will first be released as a fixed lens camera, so the Canon mount doesn't do anything for you there.

As far as a Scarlet cam with interchangeable lenses, we're back to what year.

IMO, they are some pretty sexy cameras. Not as sexy as your dominatrix with the whip, but pretty sexy. Who doesn't like uber industrial butch CNC machining?

I want both. The dominatrix and a Red. That sounds like a fun combination. But I can't afford either one.

AFAIK, the difference is about $30K in price, while the camera is essentially the same - many consider that good enough reason to wait...

Anyway, i only have a very brief experience with Epic-M (half a day of test shoots), but based on that, that camera indeed rocks... can't wait to get my hands on Scarlet ;-)

I don't think that's accurate. The Epic M is listed at 58k (full package). I do not think the Epic X is going to be 28k, but I could be wrong. It's hard to know anything with Red, they are basically full of lalalala until something is listed on the store.
