Default HV20 - disable dsiplay of settings

How can I get rid of all the displayed settings? I haven't used HV20 for a while but I could swear it was possible to get rid of everything from the LCD screen. When I set everything to "off" in "Display Setup" menu the LCD is clean but then when I touch the focus wheel some of the settings automatically come back. Is there a way to disable this automatic settings display? This is freaking annoying. I did press the "Disp." button on the side of the camera. Thanks.

Press the Display button, AGAIN and again. If I push the Display button (to turn the displayed info off) all I am left with is the level line - which I have to disable in menus, the record indicator - which is essential - and the audio levels.

Pressing the "Display" button again and again only cycles the display of settings on and off. I can't permanently disable them and they always come back when I touch the focus wheel in MF mode.

You can get a completely clean display only in Play mode, not in Record more.

Really no way to stop the displayed settings to appear automatically when touching the focus wheel? I could swear it was possible to permanently disable this automatic feature.

I often wonder why Canon did this. It makes NO sense to have the display come back on when your touch the MF dial- in fact it's counter-productive. This happens when using the HVFF obviously, so I've just got used to framing with the display on.

Thanks. I thought I was going nuts.
