Image stabilization off with FigRig or Steadicam?
I read somewhere on this forum about switching off the HV20's image stabilization when using these steadying gizmos. Have I got this right? I would have thought you'd want all the 'steadiness' you could.

Legend
The point of stuff like the stedicam is to doa smooth move. The image stabilization can't really discriminate between a smooth move or a shakey move and it "fights" you. It shows up like a "stickiness" in pans and tilts.
It's better to turn off the OIS anytime you don't explicitly need it. So, if you are on a tripod, or something, or using a stedi device. Turn off the OIS. Basically, anytime you want to pan or tilt smoothly you need to kill it.

Thanks LordT! Much appreciated. That explains a sort of jumpiness I noticed in the pans of the footage after my first (wedding) shoot.
