Default rode videomic pro mounting options for hv30

I'm looking for a little friendly discussion on external mics and mounting optiokns for the Canon Hv30. I am planning to buy the rode video mic pro for my hv30. I am looking for the different types of mounts available. I understand there are some that use the advanced accessory shoe and others that use the tripod mount underneath. I'd like to know what you guys are using. Can you post pics of your setup. Mounting it off the side such as with the L- Brackets I've read about, seems like it would be hard to balance the camera when off the tripod but I don't know. It looks like some may be able to angle to the back so that the mic comes over the top of the cam. I want to know if that interferes with shooting thru the eyepiece. I thought about getting the dm50 or dm100, but the rode gets better reviews I think. but still an option. I read it picks up cam noise but probably since its mounted on the cam. Azden smt55? something like that, the one on amazon for around 60 bucks. Not bad either but I'd like a little better mic. THe original Rode seems too big for a small cam. Well....anyway, you get the point. I've read some, and I just want to know what you guys like and know more about your thoughts on mics and mounting options but mostly to mount the Rode video pro (keep in mind handheld shooting too). Leave links and or model numbers for mounts if its not too much trouble. And don't forget the pics. THanks everyone. Shout out to the folks who started the forum and everyone who contributes.

Thanks for your response. How do you like this mount? Do you get good results with it? What kind of mic are you using?

Is it just me. I am surprised that there haven't been more responses. The thread has been viewed a lot, but not much feedback. I was hoping to hear what others are using and see some pics of various setups. Anyway, maybe more will chime in later. Probably busy shooting over the weekend.

    Thanks again.

it's been working great for me. It allows to moutn a mic and a light easily and still have a couple more slots in case you ever need them (wireless receivers maybe). I usually use it to connect a RODE NTG-2 and sometimes a HDV-Z97 LED Light, i like it because it allows me to keep the LED light centered abvoe the camera and the microphone just a bit to the side like on most bigger cameras.

Highly recommend it, is well made (all metal) and very handy.

how is this setup for handheld shooting? too heavy? balance? or is it strictly for tripod or some other supported type of shooting? Looks good though, like you can really get a lot out of it for a shoot. can you tell me a little more about that audio setup you have shown. Is all of this supported by the mount you posted the link to or just the mic?

oh yeah, i noticed the mic looks kind of long. thats the ntg2 you're displaying right? it stays out of the frame even though it's that big? that's great.

That setups is a bit front heavy for regular handheld use, that's why i usually use a shoulder mount configuration (not pictured).

The audio setup shown is a RODE NTG-2 and a JuicedLink CX211 preamp, great great combo, i've gotten great results so far with it. Both the light and microphone are held by the mount adapter i linked before and the JuicedLink is screwed to the bottom of the camera.

Yeah the NTG-2 stays barely out of frame, but i usually boom it so it's not a problem.

    Get this : http://www.rycote.com/products/universal_camera_kit/

I bought this when my Rode Videomic rubbers started snapping and squeeking.

This kit from Rycote contains everything you'll ever need for any mic you'll ever have. It's sturdy, a great shockmount and doesn't squeek. You can adjust it and the kit includes a windjammer and deadcat too.

You'll need to remove the current mount from your Videomic Pro in order to fit it to the Rycote, just like with the original VideoMic (which was mounted upside down, see this pic : http://philipbloom.net/wp-content/up...t-20.56.10.png).
