Combining sequences
Lets say I have my entire feature split up in chunks of scenes, each in a sequence.. so like..
2-5, 5-10, 10-15..
The time has come to put all of those sequences into one big sequence for export..
now, is there an easy way to do this? Or do I literally have to copy/paste all the clips in each sequence and paste them into the new master sequence? I read somewhere I could just copy the "sequence" itself and not the actual media.. but when I try that all I get is an unknown file error.

Make a new sequence. From the browser window, drag the sequences you want into that new sequence. Bam!

how do i get the other sequences into the browser window? I'm guessing I have to drag them from their own browser window?

They should already be in the browser window with all your other project files. Do you want to combine sequences from a different project or from the same project??? They should already be there...Originally Posted by azmyth

Learning the keyboard shortcuts speeds up your work tremendously. When you drag a clip or sequence into the timeline, it creates a track automatically. Organize your clips in bins - that's what they are there for.
Sequence name should have a space in front. That keeps them on top of the media browser and saves you from a lot of searching.

LOL, just to clear, I meant that Final Cut Helper, not Azmyth.
That's also the reason for my ramblings on all them You Tube tutorials made by teenagers. They might know where to click the mouse for what, but I have yet to see one of them who would be an efficient editor. Hint: No real editor ever DRAGS a clip to the timeline.

Oh I know I'm not an efficient editor. I never intended on editing this. I just got stuck with it, not really much choice. So I had to learn FCP quick. Seems like there's 10 ways to do every one thing.
This is how I work.. it may not be efficient but it gets the job done.
- Create a project
- create 2 sequences.. one for the scene and one for pluraleyes
- create 3 bins.. one for the raw footage, one for the zoom audio, and one for the synced clips
- Drag the clips into the corresponding bins, in bulk.
- open up the pluraleyes sequence in the timeline and drag the video/audio clips into 2 tracks.
- Open pluraleyes, and run it and go do something else for a while (if its a long scene)
- Come back, and go through each of the pluraleyes created sequences and delete the camera audio, clean up the ends and link the video to the now synced zoom audio. Drag the new synced clip in the "sync" bin. Repeat for every pluraleyes sequence.
- Delete the pluraleyes sequence.
I'm ready to edit.
So, every project has ONE sequence for a set of scenes..
So Scene-5-11 for example.. is one project. There is ONE sequence in that project called Scene-5-11 and only the audio/video that goes in those scenes are in the aforementiong bins in that project.
Now, I need to take the sequences from each of those seperate projects and combine them into one big sequence.

"open both projects
create a new project
tear away the browser windows from the two existing projects.
Drag whatever you want to the new projects.
Close the original two projects.
Edit away."

Azmyth, how you sort your clips and media in the media bin is completely up to you. Everyone has a different login in organizing things.
What makes you more efficient, though, is to learn how to work with the keyboard more than with the mouse.

Command + N for a new sequence.
Also if you have an audio mix in your sub sequences you should 'render only mixdown' (option+command+R) to avoid audio glitches in playback of the master sequence.
If you need to go back and adjust your mix, no problem. Just remember to apply that render again when you've finished.
