    Default Blown out skies

This is following on from another thread about day for night. I moved the discussion here because I didn't want to hijack the original thread.

Anyways, I'm hoping I can do something about these skies. A luma key seems desirable so I could overlay a new sky, but I don't want to lose the object in the foreground which is also blown a little.

I need to use the basic tools in FCP, Color doesn't run on my machine.

The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

I can't remember what exactly is in this tutorial, but check it out:

(Sorry, completely forgot about your mini)

I was able to use the luma key to take out the sky and keep the object in the foreground. Then place a nice red sunset sky at the back. It's a useful tool.

Thanks for the tutorial, CG. There is a fix for a blown out sky at the end, a different approach.

I actually didn't like the idea with the gradient.

In this case I agree. But I'm sure it could work well. Are those gradients in FCP or do you have to import/make them?

    Photoshop or GIMP.
You could also overlay a solid color and play around with opacity and feathering.

There are, btw, ways to get Color run on your mini (if you don't have the infamous Intel built-in GPU with 144MB shared RAM): http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcs_3_on_mb.html

Actually, both color and motion will run, but they're unusable. Thanks anyways.

I only said "run". I never mentioned that you actually could use it
