    Default 1080i 29.97fps workflow

Hey guys, I'm new to the hv20 scene, I'm seeing the 24p workflow, but when I capture, it comes in at 29.97. I'm sorry if this is redundant, but can someone point me into the workflow for 1080i at 29.97

    Info :
Shooting with an hv20 at 1080i60
    FCP 7

    Thanks

You capture it into your timeline, edit, and then export it.
If you burn a DVD, you keep it as is, for computer or web-use, you deinterlace.

1080i60 is plain vanilla, there nothing special to it. ehm, yes, it will show as 29.97 in your editing suite.

@Jmadrid - Did you set the HV20 at 24p or 60i? Both appear as 60i, as the 24 frames per second for 24p are actually recorded as 60 interlaced frames, with some frames being repeated. However you will need to extract the 24p video from the 60i if you need to edit it.

In the later case, please read these posts:

Of course, if you need further help let us know!

Default What frame rate does HV20 shoot in regular HDV mode?

    Hello,

Ok please don't throw apples at me. I've read the manual, read many many many posts here, emailed with Canon customer support, and talked with them on the phone. I still can't figure out what frame rate the HV20 records in the regular HDV setting. Is it 60i? Is it 29.97?

The guy on the phone said its 24 but that doesn't seem right. I thought it was 30p but found out that didn't arrive till the HV30.

This is what I have put together from my emails with Canon. Does anyone want to help me verify? Could you also please explain the difference in frame rate between HDV PF24 and CineMode 24p?

    Rec/in HD

    HDV
    1080i 60i 60fps

    HDV (PF24)
    1080i 60i Progressive Frame rate 24

    Cine Mode is
    HDV (PF24) + Cine Mode
    1080i 60i 24p

First, don't let the word Cine Mode fool you. There is another term called "Cinema Mode". Those are 2 things. I forgot which is which. But one is the "HDV (PF24)" frame rate mentioned below. One is just the color settings that mimic the film look and feel.

HDV is 1080i60. It is 60 half frames per second. From your editing program, it would read as 29.97

HDV PF24 is also 1080i60. It first record as 24fps. Then the camera inserts something called "pulldowns" to the stream to make it 29.97fps thus, to comply to the NTSC standard. If you want to obtain the pure 24fps stream, you have to run through a process called pulldown removal. Check the forum. There're lots of threads dedicated about HV20 pulldown removal process.
