Thought so, and it's rewarding at the same time.
I'll keep it updated as well as the vimeo page with the links of each video.

Yes, thank you for putting this up, drapeama. Good timing!

I watched the first 3. Heroic by Vishus was really fun. I'm also really impressed by your "On the trail of the enemy". That is really high quality stuff, man. Especially amazed by the shot composition and the editing. Really great work. Did you happen to go to film school, or is this just natural talent? Can't wait to see what you come up with your T2i.

Last Saturday, I watched all previous winners while waiting for After Effects Renders...it was great to have all these in the same spot!

No Prob! I thought it would be more "rewarding" than just a page with random winners and video lost in a webpage on another site...
Thanks, I've done that one all alone (framing, sound, lighting) so it ended up not so bad in the end! NOt so bad for using a 35mm adapter inside a house and oprating it while acting in front? as for the composition, hopefuly I had the eye for framing, because it's only static shots...which could have been boring to watch otherwise.
No I never been in a filmschool...probably just natural talent with a lack of other hobbies, so I spent all my available time watching, learning and making films!
I hope I'll be able to make something decent, not talking about the quality, but you get the point!

    Drapeama,

I like static shots, I think they are a good thing. Static shots normally force the camera to think about framing more. They also encourage good editing. There is nothing I hate more than a whole scene filmed in one shot with the camera moving around aimlessly. Ugh...

Another thing I do not like is zooms. Better leave that for cheesy 70s musical specials.

That being said, good camera movement can be amazing. You can see that kind of stuff like in Citizen Cane, or even the infamous scene in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre that follows the girl with a low take as she approaches the farmhouse. If you have seen the movie you remember that scene. It's the girl in the nice hotpants. LOL.

    1) Yeah, for almost all of the case, it's true...well, each scenes their scenes/framing and their purposes I guess...
    2) You're talking about the remake right? Who could forget about Jessica Biel's pants in that low-take..! Too much camera movement, even with a dolly/slider, is more distracting than anything else (read: Michael Bay's usual camera movements...) But, when properlly used, it can give a very nice look for the scene.

    Hey Drapeama,

I wasn't talking about the remake. I'm talking about the original 1970s film by Tobe Hooper. Tobe Hooper does very good with his camera. There is another very nice take at the beginning of "The Toolbox Murders". Another low take facing upwards in the middle of a street as the actress crosses. He mentions in the commentary that it was a little challenging because it was raining quite a bit and the mattebox ended up getting full of rain water.

As for Michael Bay, I honestly try not to think too much about it. That's just one of the reasons why mainstream cinema nowadays sucks for the most part. As long as the visuals are amazing, the herds will lay their hard earned cash in the box office counter. Then, sometimes a miracle happens and people steer away from the stink. Case in point, The Green Lantern (which seems to be on course to struggle in order to recuperate its gargantuan budget due to bad ticket sales.)

Don't get me wrong, I like special effects when there is something behind it to justify it. Just saw Super 8 last weekend, and while it doesn't reach the heights of Spielberg's work, it is a very well done hommage. Most unforgettable scene of the film with 0 special effects, but the talents of a beautiful 13 year old girl, by the way.

Thanks for the updated link Rock, sorry that I had to redact the link.
Nothing personal here, just to avoid confusion with the links in the first post. This wall of fame is for the winning videos only.
    Thanks for the links though.

The contest #25 video is now updated.

So unless you can convince the comity to disqualify it afterwards learn to live with the fact that Daniel counted wrong as he started the #19.

Rock, let me check this when I get home, as I can't access vimeo right now at the job. I'll check if Daniel did a mistake and I'll keep the thread updated with the right ones.

Sorry about that one Rock, I just had to check all contest and manage to search all videos to be able to set that page up. Sorry if I forgot yours in the process. I totally forgot about that christmas video. It's been corrected, your video has been added, sorry for the inconvenient.
Also, I'll try to keep the winner's banners updated. So if you (every winner that reads that) could send me a PM about the contest you won, I'll make you a banner for sure. I don't know when, I've been quite busy recently but I'll try to make it ASAP upon reception of PMs.
