I dunno, go out for a beer instead of checking in on the forum and the rabble are uprising and trying to take over eh?
I was already here helping Daniel with the competition, so I'd say that makes me still a part of this wouldn't you? Perhaps I missed a memo or something?
I'm glad antmans back!
I might enter this one. I like horror![]()
You'll never know if you don't go. GO!
Thanks for the kind words kingducky, Im glad to reconnect with you guys![]()
I'm feeling frisky!
I'm not talking about one take per scene, but rather one continuos take for the entire film. With not even a single cut. As long as I choreograph it correctly, it should have a very smooth fluid feel to it. Being a huge fan of hitchcock, this is where I first discovered the technique. If you have ever seen the movie "ROPE" this is what he was doing. The problem was, he could only shoot for so long due to the fact they were shooting film. I imagine they were running 200ft at a time. So he had no choice but to have cuts. Funny the Canon dslr's have a similar limitation 67 years later on a completely different format, go figure. But for this I will use the gh2 on either a shoulder rig or steadycam, I haven't decided what look Im going to go for. If it's voyeristic, I will go shoulder rig.
I'm feeling frisky!
Antman, where you been man? I am sure there is a movie scene where the guy just wakes up and carries on as if he had never been away. And here I thought this contest was some sort of a tomb stone to your memory. Welcome back.

Sounds like a plan.
Incidentally, one of the things I'd suggested to Daniel was that contests tend to work better with prizes, the old HD Shorts were always prize based, and it did seem to get more entries. I reckon an old video light or a filter is ok as a prize, but nothing beats cold hard cash... that's why I was proposing this as a prize for the next competition...
But then, it might be a problem to start adding prizes to the Antman after so long without it? So how about a resurrection of the old HD Shorts format as a less regular competition to run alongside the Antmans three week one.
I'm more than happy to set up and run a new version of the HD Shorts alongside continuing to judge and help out with Antmans where needed.

1) Yeah, that's great, but who's supplying or sponsorizing these prizes? That's the problem I see...Otherwise it would be a great idea.
2) Interesting option, we should ask Mal about it...that could be very nice and everyone could enter even both contest at the same time too...Let's ask Mal and see how it goes, but I'd suggest to start moderately, so we won't lose control any soon...
The easiest way is to make an admission fee of like twenty bucks, im sure everyone can swing a twinkie. This way the winner can buy whatever they want. Im guessing it may draw more entries.

Members of the forum mostly, Dave supplied the D-Focus I won in an early HD Short, I supplied the years subscription to American Cinematographer that Antman won in a later competition.
For my proposal right now there is $175 USD in prize money, surely that's got to pique some interest from forum members who would otherwise not bother entering? Seems like it's worth a shot, but as you point out, the Antman competition has done pretty well... lasting 25 runs with zero prizesThat's why I was thinking we could try another HD Shorts as a side feature instead of muddying the Antman waters... as it were.

1) It could be great, but there's another point: leet's faace the fact that you enter 4-5 contest and never won one...you still invested 15-20$ each time...get my point?
2) Sure it'll pique the curiosity and pobably attract more people...that's for sure!
3) Yeah, it's been running great since the beginning. Adding some prizes would certainly help to get more people. Let's see how it goes!
Not true! Antman is sending me my prize as an anniversary present. and Draps won a set of wireless headphones for contest #3 where I handed out the prize! And... Holy crap, Antman is back! And... AJUK, I was only throwing my hat in to keep things running. I'd rather be able to submit entries. I'm cool if you and Mark run the show.
And... Antman, I like the idea of the continuous take. We were talking about the Hitchcock film at work the other day, and it is instantly what sprung to mind when you talked about how you wanted to film yours. I also just today watched the 9 minute American Pie/Grand Rapids video that was all one take as well.
Looks like we have a lot of interest in this round, looking forward to all the entries!
lmao. If enough people like the idea of shooting one take, maybe we could make it criteria? Just seems like a good exercise in blocking, angles, audio, well pretty much it's a good exercise in every aspect. I saw the american Pie song, they did a killer job, very tough to do, timing has to be spot on. What do you guys think?I handed out the prize! And... Holy crap, Antman is back!
I'm feeling frisky!
Only if darth was mod.... maybe an HVFF prize will revive it...

Hey, about the prizes: charlie just had an interesting idea.
Let's say that every user contribute to give something for a specific theme (we have 12 user that gives something so we'll have 12 prizes for 12 contest, right?). Having that, we attribute a number to each individual prize and the winner of a specific theme choose a random number of his choice and get the prize that comes with the number, sounds good to you guys?
It could be pretty much anything, like the flashlight for #25 from Mal and the watch from Huey for the upcoming #26...
I personally think it would be great. We could do a list of all prizes available, and we (mods) could attribute numbers to these prizes, so the winner pick up #13, which wouldn't necessary be the listed item #13 in the list, following me?
What do you think about that guys?
Edit: Almo, if darth's willing to give one, that would be a nice piece of gear to win!
That's a better idea: no theme, only the "single-shot" criteria. That would be quite good.
Would a scene like the opening scene in Snake Eyes be allowed?
Totally agree. Would be great for me as I won every entries I entered, but for someone that entered 2-3 contest and never won...he's just losing money...
I think the collective prizes contribution would definitively be the best option.
Edit: What do you think about that?
No entry fee!
