yeah I did see this... I'm positive it'll go on sale again soon enough- but I'm still not sure if the T2i with the ML hack might be a better and cheaper option.
What to do?!?!

T3i will have ML ported by over in the next few months, 60D is already ported (Alpha) and T3i is planned (uses similar firmware to the 5D Mark II so they think it can be done no problem, just waiting for someone to step up and do it).
Get the T3i to hold resale, the articulating screen is a dream for working low or on a slider, digital crop zoom is fantastic at 3x (beyond that it's useless) and it is way more robust, much better build... unless of course you need ML right now, then 60D or T2i.
I don't need it yet, but I don't want to wait too long...

I hate you net. I had just returned my t3i deciding I couldn't justify the 900 dollar expense of it, given that my first few shots with it had pleanty of aliasing problems. Then you posted this, and I had to buy it again.... bastard. Now 2 HV30's and 1 T3i -- I can film the superbowl!
Yeah I got in before the price hike, but I just got an email that it is backordered so it might be awhile (not a real surprise since every Best Buy in my state is sold out). I was tempted to get the 60D @$900, but I couldn't justify the extra cost. I had been tempted with the Sony A55 for awhile because I liked it's 10 fps burst and good auto focus in live view, but I like Canon, and I like Canon's lenses, and the A55 doesn't have 24p (the real deal breaker). So when the T3i dropped to a price below even the A55, I had to pull the trigger again. I've got an 18 month old that needs to be filmed!
Can I use my lenses from my Canon Rebel XT on this camera?
Yeah of course what Drapes said is correct, to add... you can use almost any brand lens with this camera as well, including super inexpensive full manual lenses which range from $10-$200 like Nikon Mount, M42 Mount, heck even the old film Canon FD lens mounts, provided you get the appropriate adapter for each mount, which can all be had from eBay from $10-$40 depending on the type of mount adapter. It really opens things up as far as different visual creativity with some of that older cheap glass!
Tried to get an FD lens on the T2i, never been able to get it to work. I'm using a mount adapter like this one.
It probably need the model with the optics in it in order to work...anyway, not a big deal, I have a similar lens on a nikon mount which works great so...
Heads Up! If you need a Canon EOS Rebel T3i (Body Only), they are On Sale @ Bestbuy this week for only $699 Free Shipping (In USA)
The T3i kit is not such a bargain at $849
I thought everypne said the kit lens was pretty useful. At 18-55mm at least it's wide, right? I'm just about to buy a T3i but now i'm confused. Is the kit kens worth $150? Or should I just put that $$$ towards something like a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 which I plan on buying anyway?

It is! I love it, in daylight, despite it's short comings with lack of focus ring...
Sorry to confuse you with my vague comment Uncle Paully
Yeah it was (and still is) worth the $899 I paid for the kit on release day, so yeah the kit is still worth $849 for sure, that is still a great price and wouldn't think twice about it, however my statement was in comparason as to the original posting price of this thread. That is all I meant.
Now if you are DEFIANTLY buying that Sigma, then yeah skip the kit lens, but plan to budget for the coveted Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX, because you will want something wider than 24mm for sure... that lens is amazing and one of the MOST useful lenses for the T3i at it's 11mm-16mm extreme wide end (not fisheye) and amazing in low light at 2.8 constant aperture. It has been a real hard lens to get hold of even with the budget for it for over a year now, but even though stocks have (currently) improved, you could still get rid of it for the same $650 in a heatbeat even after using it for a year, so... it's a no loose deal, but if you can't budget for it now, just get the kit now, then the Sigma (or other comparable zoom in that range), and then when you can afford the Tokina, sell the kit lens for $100, since it is the Version 2 with improved stabilazation over the one that came with the T2i, typically selling for $60-$80 used right now on eBay and forums.
After a couple grand, I have pretty much finished buying lenses for a while, but I still don't have that Tokina (well one of my own that is), I actually really want one and would use it constantly so it may be worth biting the bullet while they are available again, but I really need a new lighting kit, like these LINCO FLORAS, so I have to put my budget next month ($1000) towards that and probably a new shotgun for better duologue (Rode NTG-2 for the H4n) as I am going to be doing more studio interview and narative projects in the comming winter... sad to think that summer is nearly over after 2 months and snow will arrive soon in Canada.... Oh the horror![]()
