Default Antmans Film Contest #24: Open Theme

After what would appear to be a successful Contest #23, I'm happy to announce the next contest and theme for you all. I hope to see the calibre of quality I saw for the last theme

This theme was suggested by Drapeama, which is nice of him considering I had no idea for this one.

    The Next Theme is "Open"

As in, there is no theme. You are free to make whatever story, whatever type of video you wish as long as you include the following elements:

    1) Something religious related (a crux, a church, whatever and from any religion)
    2) A phone conversation
    3) A candle burning

    Rules:
    1) Can't be longer than 5 minutes
    2) Shouldn't be rated over PG-13, unless specifically mentioned in the contest's individual thread.
    3) Video should be posted on vimeo official page ONLY. Videos for the current theme will not be available to view until the contest deadline > managed by Shigeta, creator of the official page.
    4) The winner can enter the next competition. Their entry will be considered 'non competitive' to make it fair on others.
    5) a) Use of copyrighted material/songs : as long as it's not the center point/plot of the story, it's allowed. Otherwise user will be disqualified. Example : the coca-cola can/SONY tv . somewhere in the movie isn't considered as a copyrighted infringement.
    b) “Use of copyrighted music both in lyrics, score or performance, other than such that is recorded incidentally during normal filming, without a release will result in the video being disqualified. “
    6) Entries must be made specifically for the theme submitted to, within the 2 weeks deadline. All entries made before the announcement of the theme will be disqualified.

Contest deadline is 1st June 2011, 12am UTC. Which translates to roughly 3 weeks.

Get on it ladies and gentlemen!

Submit your entries to the following group ONLY: http://www.vimeo.com/groups/antmansfilmfestival

    1) Yeah, it's been nice to see all these entries, even if yours was a NCE. Everyone did a great job!
    2) I hope it's not too hard, I liked the idea of a theme without one with only a few required elements. And these are mostly common everywhere in every house so I thought it would be just as easy as the music video!
    3) UTC TIME

Open theme, nice. I really plan on doing something for this, I can't miss out on another contest. A short film it is!

Thanks, Daniel. Rest assured, I will have an entry in this contest. It's been a rough patch for me lately with things, but I feel good about this one. Hope to see one from you too, your music video was great.

Good timing. I just wrapped up getting a film ready for a summer contest last week and now I can try to jump back into the hv20 contests. I have the seedlings of an idea already...I am sure I should have something for this contest. I like the "open" themes with just a few constraints.

Btw...good job on the last contest Dan. It was really good.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to these entries already. I'll see what I can do about a short... I'm not sure I have anything religous in my house though as... I'm not religous. I'll try and get in on this with another NCE as well, it's good to get away from the videography and go into creative filming again.

    1) You should make one for sure, it's not that hard to include these three items in a short video.
    2) Well, everybody has a church in his town? Then go ahead! No need to be religious to shoot something that it is.
    3) Why another NCE? You should submit it as a regular entry...and just not vote for yourself, but you work for it in the deadline, you have the right to get a chance to win. Ask for someone else to judge in the worst case.
    4) It's more my "cup-of-tea" if I can say so. Not that the music video wasn't fun/cool to do, but I prefer making short movies.

I actually like entering mine as NCE. The criticism and comments are what I prefer more than anything. That's my little victory

That's the best part : free criticism from other experienced users.

I've wrote about a quarter of the movie and tried to step back and visualize the shots. Knowing where I am taking this short...I may have a problem with the 5 min limit...I always get myself in this situation. When I get attached to certain framed shots and sequences it is a shame to cut them sometimes. But anyhow...this is gonna be fun.

In the worst case it'll be a NCE, if Dan decides so, but I'd say, if it's not boring, the 5 minutes limit isn't a problem here: check Playing's last entry, his song was over 7mins.

June 1st, plenty of time for me to make an excuse!
Do not view me as a critic or a judge. I just tell it how I see it, valuable or not.

Awesome. I might be able to film tomorrow, I'll try to get some behind the scenes stuff if I can, but it depends on the amount of actors I have.

Wow! Hopefully I can get something rolled through. Fieldwork is hitting pretty hard right now though, so I'm quite busy. I love the theme and must-have elements though!

Good news! I thought it would be easier for everyone to have something "wide-open" with only few elements required. As for the elements, I think they are pretty easy to include in a 5 minutes short movie.
Actually, charlie came up with a very good idea and I'll help her making the short as a DP, so I'll have to work a bit harder on mine if I don't want to be in her shadow for this one!

Hmmm those requirements could lead to something quite mysterious. I'll have to think about this one and see if I come up with a good idea

Awesome, more the merrier. It still amazes me what people come up with and do such a good job on in a few short weeks.
