HG20 problems! no display when in record mode! wont turn off in that mode either.
i ve had an HG20 since sometime in 2008, and just this week it has developed an 'issue'.
when i put it in playback mode, the lcd display works, i could see all the files etc.
but in record mode, and picture shoot mode, i get a blank screen and i can hear a faint clicking noise, assuming the hard drive or the lense maybe??
i removed all my footage from the cam thinking maybe the harddrive was full perhaps? but this didnt solve the problem.
i also hit the reset button a few times behind the battery pack. I was hoping i had purchased an extended warranty, which i did, BUT it was only for two years and im in year three now! positive side, i found this websight and maybe i can find some practical ways of dealing with all my footage. I have final cut studio that i bought while at college a year ago, but i havent been able to successfully incorporate ANY of my footage in a usable way on my macbook. i also recently bought leowood video converter but this is another tangent alltogether...
so any suggestions about the recording issue to try? next step is drop it off at a canon repair facility - but that cost money.
i hardly used the camera, so i was a little perturbed that it would fail as it did.

working again. the shutter door got jammed open it turned out, yeah im not very good at investigating first off... i shook it a bit and it now works again? now i will attempt to follow work flow to make usage of my footage and Final Cut pro 7... i need to upgrade from 2gig to 4 gig soon on my macbook to speed things up i think.

Hello - I am having the similar problem. No disaply during record mode in both camaera and camcorder modes. It is showing blan screen on LCD. It is working fine in play mode. I checked my shutter. Looks like it is open. I tried shaking it. But, no use. I really appreciate your help.
