    Default Documentaries?

I was wondering if anyone is interested to do a docu competition? Doesn't have to be something real... fake docus are oftentimes better than real ones IMHO.

Yes, good idea, cgbier. I actually have a mockumentary partly developed, but this would give me the motivation to go through with it.

Don't know yet about guidelines. I was thinking to give a topic and a maximal length of, say, five minutes. The rest is open. I wanted to keep is simple as possible with the rules.
Just be careful with copyrights. Rating G or max. PG (US rating system).

But... But... Sex SELLS! Yeah OK, hmmm wondering if I should do a real one or a fake/spoof/mockumentary...

How long until a deadline? This will ultimately determine if I can participate or not...

    Sex SELLS
You can do one of them wonderful "the sex life of a bee" movies we slept through on middle school...

How's about 4 weeks as a deadline? Any suggestion for a topic?

No topic. That should be wide open also. Just give the theme of documentary and let everyone go. Also, if no cuss words are allowed in a PG or whatever rating, then yeah, that should go too. Everyone is old enough to not be offended by a F*ck here or there.

No topic. .... Just give the theme
Semantics again. Sorry, that's what I meant.

And you have to include these three items...
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Wait, are you starting your own contest here or something, cgbier? O.o

Also, a theme would kill it for me. GIVE ME AN OPEN THEME OR GIVE ME DEA...an open theme .

And a length of 10 minutes max.

Ok, I'm starting to be unreasonable, but that's my last suggestion..for now.

I don't know if I'd call it starting my own contest. I just think we are short on docus here on this forum. Always them music videos, horror and action flicks get boring after a while.

Well, I can understand that, I'm just not sure how many people who enter will actually create a real documentary. It would be nice though. I've never done one, but it would seem a bit more complicated than a regular short.

Actually, docus are pretty simple. See is a visualization of a college paper or something like that. You write about something you know or researched about. Just film that script. Straight storyline without many gizmos attached.
...and it doesn't have to be a real event. You can come up with something.

Is this happening? Might even give it a shot... 5 mins is pretty short, though. You get one or two good talkers in an interview, you've got 20 minutes before you know it

+1 (10-15 minutes is likely better suited for a doc), and the limit on most YouTube accounts, it's not exactly a short now is it, it's more about the content, so squeezing it down to 5 mins may actually hurt the finished product or writer's initial vision, you can only cut so much. I am OK with 5 mins though (like as if my opinion mattered, lol) but I think if we are going to do this, it's important not to loose sight of the ultimate Truth... that these productions are supposed to be about one thing, HAVING "FUN"!

If we're voting (not sure we are) I would say under 15 mins, but below 10 mins would certainly be better suited for a doc than just 5 mins.

    Those Are My Thoughts...

Running at around the 5-minute mark, some of these entries are quite entertaining.

Yeah OK... 5 minutes is plenty if the story/production isn't good... LOL those examples at the link above have painfully bad audio! I don't think I have ever seen as bad as that! Still, some were entertaining, like the barrel one... lol

Tell me about it!! But my point was that it is possible to make one in five minutes.
