Default Ideas for a 2 Min. Movie?

Hi all. I am taking classes at a film school, and my assignment is to shoot a 2 min. movie. The only problem is that I have serious writer's block, and the only ideas I can come up with can't be explained well in 2 minutes, or cost a bunch of money. Any ideas? Even just a rough idea, I can write the script and stuff. I really just need a baseline.

    Thanks guys,

    Wes

Let's try a chase scene. Doesn't cost much money to shoot and it can be done esily within 2 mins.

Even easier- my first student film was called "The Poker Game" and was just that.

All you need is a couple actors, a table and chairs and a deck of cards and some poker chips. This could very well cost nothing, could be silent (mine was) and the effect is nearly as good as if it were a "real" movie..

Watch the end of Rounders and you'll get an idea.

It's a SIMPLE way to go, but it also let's you focus on things like: lighting, rule of 1/3's, 180 degre rule, and just plain old camera placement- without having to change angles or camera placement. Plus you can pretty much do the whole thing on a tripod. This was by FAR the easiest short I ever shot, and it's still one of my favorites.

Thanks, both of you. I might try the poker game one, but this one with sound. But i might also try a chase scene, and then pick the one i like best.

Did you get your gear together? What do you have?
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Huey- I have gotten most of my gear together. At least enough to shoot this little film. I have the canon T2i with kit lens, a ravelli fluid head tripod, a shotgun mic, a boom pole, a shock mount, a few SD cards, Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD10 Editing Software (with added audio editing software), and some high quality headphones. Is it enough, do you think?

    Looking good.
Which mic and how will you record it?

I think the one he's taking about is the cheap HDTZ-81 Almohada often refers to.
With some work in post it might gives good results.

It might good to consider DarthPaully's suggestion.
I guess you can test your setup first, but you may well find that it isn't adequate.

Have you ever tested it before? You should at least try to capture some dialog as a test before, then you'll see if you can work that way or not.

Do you have any actors or crew? You have enough stuff there to be well on your way, but HELP is what you need... the one thing you can't buy! I've got at least 2 projects ready to pop- good ideas too, but are on friggin' hold because of the actors and crew I work with... BTW- the poker game scenario would allow YOU to fill in as an actor if you needed to. I started shooting mine with me in it first, but luckily I was able to scrape up another buddy before my "Star" actor got too drunk. The new guy had a hat and a beer mug (better props than I had) so I went for it.

Did I mention that I shot, edited, and burned "The Poker Game" with a Sony Cybershot with 720p moviemode, a $30 tripod and Windows Movie Maker- in lkess than 12 hours?

It's funny we are talking about this because I have been wanting to post "The Poker Game" on the forum, mainly because (blushes), I HAVEN'T POSTED ANY OF MY MOVIES ON THE FORUM YET.... It's pretty raw but I think it's not bad, all considered. Maybe I'll

Has there been a thread on "My first film..." If not, this would be a great way for people to get motivated- or have a place to show some of their movies. Good or Bad, I would probably PAY to be able to see a bunch of "legitimate" first time films/shorts- nothing too special, but not home videos- basically narrative based or what-not. I think we all could learn from them somehow, plus it's FUN!! We should host a "My first movie" MARATHON thread!!

I'm going to start a thread anyway because I'm CRAZY!!

WESELDAR- Good luck brother- I wish I still had those classes to take. Hope you guys like my film...

Hahaha hell yeah! It's an awesome mic. I think I ended up picking it up for $15! No complaints at all. Just gotta know how to use it correctly.

Hey Weseldar, how about a poker game AND chase scene? You could open with the poker game then have some inciting incident which leads to a chase. I imagine them playing poker (with some beautiful dolly shots going around the table) and then something happens and then he lifts up the window right next to the table, jumps out and runs after someone outside. Maybe someone was peeking in at them through the window. Who knows, it could be anything. Leave it with a sharp cliffhanger....

Ok, so I filmed all yesterday. We decided to make it be a pool game, as our other actors couldn't be there. And now I get to spend my Sunday doing homework and Editing! Yippee! Oh, and also, Vegas Studio has been crashing ALOT, any tips?

Maybe because of the AVCHD files from your T2i? You can always check Khaver's utility for proxies, it would make it easier to edit.
