Default Can Someone Help with Tapes & JVC SR-DVM600 using a New HV40

I am new to the forum and have a few questions if the members can give me some advise or point me in the right direction.

    1) What type of tapes should I be using with the HV40?
I have been using Panasonic 83min AY-DVM83MQ with my old camera and still have these new tapes in stock. Do I need to use an HD Tape or can any Tape be used?

    2) Can the AY-DVM83MQ Tapes record in HD?
If not, what Panasonic Tapes should be used - I prefer to use 83min, I know

    3) Can I switch between recording in both HD & Standard all on the same tape using the HV40?

    4) I have a JVC SR-DVM600 recording deck of which I use to transfer my MiniDV Tapes to DVD's. I do not believe that the JVC with read HD Tapes, but maybe wrong, is it possible?

If not, can the HV40 camera be somehow connected to the JVC so that I can transfer my HD tapes onto a DVD or the Hard Drive on the JVC?

    I appreciate anyone help!

I would advise against using tapes longer than 60 or 63 minutes. Normal mini-DV tapes are OK, but the thinner 83 min. tapes can cause more dropouts.

Tape is tape. Use any well-known mini-DV tape brand. I'm very satisfied with Sony Premium. Be sure to get a cleaning cassette. Run it for 10 seconds every 10 hours of camera use.

Yes, but why? Shoot everything in HD, and edit or export to SD if necessary.

If that's a SD DV deck, it won't read HDV tapes.

Yes, set it to output SD from the HDV tape, and use either the firewire or the analog output, depending on what the other equipment can accept.

HDV doesn't support 80 minutes tapes. I wouldn't use them for SD either.

I never had any problems using the 83min tapes in my old camera and heard of the problems using them. Still have about a dozen or so of these left and will be switching to 63min tapes soon. I did not know that there was no difference between the MiniDV HD & the SD tapes. I always bought pro tapes, so I guess that is good enough then and do not have to buy the tapes marked HD.

As for the recordering of my HC40 HD tapes to my SD recorder deck all I need to set the output someplace on the HV40 I guess to SD, then connect this to my SD deck and can then record to neither the hard drive or the DVD, nice! Do you know how to set the HV40 to output to SD?

Thanks, Janke and cgbier for the info.

DV lock, change the output in Playback mode to "DV Lock".

Thanks Dan I will try that.

I would like to stick with using Panasonic tapes since I have had good luck and results with them especially when I was using the 83min AY-DVM83MQ.

I am looking at the 63min HD tapes and would like to know what is different between the Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ and the AY-DVM63MQ?

    Thanks!

I normally buy them PQUS in bulk. Cost me around $2.50 a bang. The ones you mention are a waste of money.
