Default Converting HV20 output to PS3 compatible MP4 under linux

    Hi,
Maybe this is not HV20 specific, but let's see if I can get some help. I'm trying to convert my HV20 family videos to an mpeg-4 format compatible with the PS3 (sony playstation 3). I've tried the ffmpeg utility that comes with opensuse 10.3, but no luck. The mpeg-4 codec available for encoding is called libx264.

I just downloaded and installed under wine the following app: http://www.ps3-video-converter.com-http.com/

It seems to be a front-end to a very-much-similar-tool-to-ffmpeg under windows. It comes with defaults for PS mpeg4 avc 1080p of 2 to 3 mbps max. So, I edited the profile files for PS3 and modified that 3mbps to 8 mbps. I get much better looking avc / ps3 compatible files, and they work under the PS3.

The command line that the utility calls is:

    C:\Program Files\MP4Converter\PS3 Video Converter 3\avc.exe -@ -y -i y:\testseis.mpeg -bitexact -vcodec h264 -b 8000 -maxrate 3500 -bufsize 1280 -r 29.97 -acodec mpeg4aac -ab 256 -ar 44100 -ac 2 (stereo) -g 250 -qscale 25 -coder 1 -s 1920x1072 -t 300 -ss 0 C:\Temp\testseis-3.mp4

Similar to ffmpeg, isn't it? I'm looking at opensuse 10.3 now, because when I use h264, it seems the ffmpeg I got from the repositories does not have that codec. If I use libx264, it seems to build a PS3 incompatible file.

Both files run under gmplayer on linux, tho.

    Any ideas about this subject?
