    Is that the racoon-eyed chick?

Someone in makeup should have reduced the heavy handed eye painting...unless that was deliberate. Not detracting from the movie, it just looks kind of goofy though.

What kind of ISO's are you pushing your GH2 Azmyth? I'm seeing some digital grain/noise in your stills... it's not distracting, I was just wondering.

I never go higher than 1250, in extreme circumstances. Neat video does a good job of taking care of most of it.

Damn it!! Your screen caps are making it too easy to go DSLR at this stage hahaha... probably the BEST DSLR screenshots I have seen!!!!!!! Seriously... no ugly colors whatsoever and the grain (noise) gives it an even nicer look. I hate footage that is too clean. Disgusting. I might be shooting a feature internationally (I cannot pass up an opportunity like that again) but they are considering DSLRs so I might end up shooting on one.

I think you should've started the teaser with them opening the door of the house then cutting to the lantern and the photo on the wall. A simple establishing shot. Makes more sense to me. Also there was a little too much security camera footage for my taste (don't know how important it is in the movie but it was a bit much... I understand it is a teaser but I guess it didn't match up with the rest of the fast cutting or suspense)

This ought to underscore what I've been saying all along. In the hands of one tuned into his medium, and applying a sense of vision, it flat doesn't matter WHAT EQUIPMENT that person uses (assuming it will do the "basics").

He's tuned into the gear and what he wants so the colors do what he wants them to do, but grain (noise)? I'm not seeing any, either in the screen grabs nor in the "teaser". But then I'm a bit fanatic about no oversharpening on my monitors. I do a lot of PhotoShop work on them so they have to be adjusted sharp but I stop short of where oversharpening takes minor color artifacts and makes them look like "noise" where there really is extremely little to none.

He's been real careful to keep the ISO's down and lighting looks a lot better than in Exit 101. I think his DP really held him back on that one.

Congratulations on the opportunity. Take that DSLR you've been using for photography and try to "become one with it" and with any lenses you have access to. Even if it doesn't do motion picture, everything you become "attuned" to with it will transfer to the motion picture medium.

Both are Photography, all of the principles of Photography apply, you just have the additional dimension of "motion" to deal with and work on.

    Good luck

Almo, I'm going to disagree on this one. I think showing the lantern first is MUCH creepier (which is my intention). Showing them coming in first is just like every other generic horror trailer of its kind, which I was trying to avoid. I wanted the focus on the house and what happens in it. Everyone who has watched it who isn't a film maker, have all commented on being genuinely creeped out by it, and jumping at the right parts (the person in the window). I'm trying to picture what you've described in my head, and it just doesn't fit the vision I have.. feels too generic. Duly noted though.

The security camera footage is a big part of the story as this film is a combination of found footage and cinema style film making. I tried to combine the two, so that's the reason its there. And again, some of the more creepy moments in the film are via security cam. Not all of them are, hopefully there is a nice balance. I mixed it in with the fast cutting, to break it up some so that it isn't all super fast. Your right though it is a teaser, and we did not show the very best parts like some people seem to do.

I appreciate your comments regardless, in this case its just a personal taste thing.

Almo, go with a DSLR.. I was skeptical at first too, but I've actually become MORE familiar with my GH2 than I have other conventional cameras. It feels easier to use in many cases, and obviously makes great images. I wish I had some cinema lenses and a PL mount.. I can't even fathom how great that would look. Unless there is a major improvement in camera's by the time my next script is ready.. the GH2 will be going into use again!

Bruce thanks for the kind words! I feel like I've come a long way, and this is 100x the film EXIT 101 was, you should have it now so I'm sure you can see that just based on the trailers. I learned a lot, and I am happy with the decision I made to DP this myself. I really thing it turned out better than it would have otherwise, in half the time. We've already got some distributor interest, so I have no doubt we will get something for this one. I want to play the field though!

Yes, I have it and have watched it. I let you say it, about 7TM being 100x the film EXIT 101 is, I didn't want to say that for fear of being misunderstood. EXIT 101 was quite an accomplishment, holding it all together and completing a feature length work. I can see how much, much, much better "Seven Toe Maggie" is going to be from the stills and the trailer. I'm really excited to see it.

Definitely turned out better for you DP'ing it yourself. I can see in the grabs and the trailer that your talent really pulled together and gave you real performance. Facial expressions in the stills tell that clearly. And your lead has a role I think that will do her career a lot better than "Darcy Docket" in the clip I watched.

Good luck on the distribution negotiations. You should get a decent deal on this one (and I haven't even seen it yet) because I think you've got some real quality speaking for itself.

I agree with pretty much everyone above. You've made some really big strides since "Exit 101", especially in the cinematography department. Nice job, Azmyth.

P.S. How did you get the bit of her falling into the tub at 0:46, and then immediately resurfacing, to look so good? I have a similar shot in "ITW" (a character surfacing from being submerged, and nearly drowning in a bathtub), and I must've spent three hours trying to get it just right, and I'm still not happy with how it came out. :P

    Palmer, thanks!

I'm not sure.. we just did it. Just lit the bathroom and went to town.

From what i remember now, it was a smallish room. we had the tub right next to a window and candles on the window sill for ambience. The whole room/tub had a rustic color, so once we lit it (I basically motivate my lights from where they'd actually be coming from... ie windows, candles... practical lights.)

I am pretty sure we had one slightly off to the left of the tub at an angle coming from another room.. and one directly behind the camera just slightly to the right.

I am looking for someone with a good eye, who would like to volunteer to help me tighten up my edits. I'd like to get a 2nd opinion on my cuts. I am uploading every scene that's cut to a dropbox folder. I'm looking for someone who is going to be online quite a bit, whom I can get on a messenger to discuss the cuts and figure out ways to make them better. I'll hook up up with a credit in the film, and IMDB credit for helping out.

If your interested send me a PM.
