Tips for shooting T2i with Hv30?
Ok, so I got a t2i. Yay! and have now discovered I have no idea what I'm doing with it.
But, I want to shoot with my HV30 and my T2i.
Anyone got some tips for settings for both cameras, to make matching easier in post?
Ok, for starters I'm guessing white balance both before each shot.
And of course, set both to 30p, or 24p.
Anything else?
Set the HV30 to CineMode and the contrast of the T2i to lowest or next-lowest step. Do a test shoot of a "typical" scene, and adjust the T2i's custom settings to match the HV as closely as possible.
Here's a test - note that it is only hand-held, i and p and shutter speed don't match; I just tested the color and contrast (read the comments on the youtube page):

It's actualy quite easy to do. On this video, I've matched the HV40 + DOF adapter with the T2i:
Here's the info on the vimeo's description:
"HV40 was set to: Cinemode (1/24) & Custom picture style (minus values to sharpness/contrast).
T2i was set to: ISO100, 1/48 shutter speed and f/1.8 aperture."
I've done this test in low-light by tweaking the HV40: Cinemode (to get the max available light) and using the "Custom" Picture Style (from the menu) I've set the values to minus for sharpness and contrast. Then, so you can use the manual White Balance or use one of the presets available, depending on the lighting.
Then, on the T2i, from the neutral profile, you can adjust the contrast and use the proper color balance to match the one you'll be using on the HV40. Using Magic Lantern would help, as you can use manual values to set the color temp.
It's pretty simple to do. Not much color correction in post to do.

I've also matched my T2i/550D to my "bare" HV30, the latter in cinemode+custom, just as Drape.
I had the T2i in Neutral style, with some tweaks to contrast. They matched pretty well.
can you explain it? btw I have got hv30 and t3i .
Set HV30 to Cinemode, custom settings to minus (or leave at 0, if you prefer a snappier image).
On the T3i, choose the Neutral picture style, and if necessary, adjust the contrast so that a test shot matches what you get from the HV.

Wow! Has anybody done any matching test on xha1 and t2i? What about the shutter rates as i and p do not match what are your recommendations?
Both the HV30 and the T2i compare in quality when you get down to the base of it all. The T2i does perform better in low light, allows the use of multiple lenses without having to use a 35mm adapter, and allows more control over your manual settings. There is a 12 minute max recording length unless you plan on buying the expensive SDXC cards, the camera could have the possibility of lowest range. After capturing all the videos i've seen of the T2i seem a lot clearer than what i can get with my HV30 . I have a Rode Video Mic already so audio wouldn't be a problem with the T2i. And i'm really tired of the little focus wheel on my HV30.

When you use the Magic Lantern modification on the T2i you can easily get longer max recording times by lowering the bitrate without any noticeable loss in quality as long as your subject is not fast motion. Especially when mixing it with the HVXX.
