    Default Which Rig??

Hi. I'm relatively new on here and I am getting the HV30. I am planning on getting multiple mics and lights and a dof adapter and a mattebox and all sorts of other stuff (possibly even a monitor). If I am planning on getting all of this stuff, I should probably get a rig with rails to support it all. But then a new question arises: What rig should I buy?? You guys can help me with this. I need a rig that is cost effective, relatively lightweight yet durable, and I would also like one that has room for expansion- whether it be for a larger camera or a larger adapter or lense. I saw the Cinevate shoulder support rig on B and H, but I didn't know if there was a better, cheaper system. Please reply. Any and all tips and recommendations are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Wes

I ended up building one for less than 20$. I don't know if you're good at DIY, here's mine:

Otherwise check on ebay for a model that is cheaper to the cavision one. A lot of people bought that model and i never heard anything wrong about them.

Is that the corian material you mentioned way back?
It would be great to have more detailed photos of how you're making the corian clamp and hold the rods.
Also ... how difficult was it to drill out the corian to hold the rods?
I've got a drill press but would like to know how tough it is.

Also ... that battery. I'm pretty sure I've got the same one.
When you hook it up to the charger have you figured out how to know when it's fully charged?
I haven't and it would be great to know.

    Thanks!

    1) Yes it is!
    2) I'll try to post some and maybe a video when i'll get somebody to help me.
    3) Not that much, ~hard wood, but as it's a hard density plastic, you must take the time to drill the hole properly. I've seen a drill bit break because i've tried to drill it too fast. Take the time, go a little by a little and it's easy to work with that material then.
    4) That's exactly what i'm using, otherwise the holes wouldn't fit the rods and it'd be a mess.
    5) Ordered from ebay, 9800mAh
    6) I haven't charged it since i've received it this summer. I guess max 6hours would be enough. More than this beware that the battery doesn't get too hot.

Love it man. I could look through DIY rig pics all night (and have done many times).

Hey Drape, how do you use it off the tripod? Shoulder Rig?

    Thanks darth!
I'm currently building one, but actually it's only the two aluminium bars on my shoulder. Should be done before the end of the week. I'll post pictures.
I'll add a handle under the Kiwi35 adapter too, because it weight about 6-7 pounds with the monitor and the battery. I'll need weights on the shoulder to balance the weight of the rig itself.

    Thanks.
    Yep. Same battery.

I did one 4 hour charge on mine a few months ago after I got it and just out of curiosity I hooked my 7" Lilliput (powered by the battery) to my TV settop box at 7:10 AM this morning to see how long int will run.
    It's 11:22 AM. and it's still going.

On the corian. I found some on eBay and was thinking of doing a rail support rig.
It would be great to have more pics of how you're doing it.

Technically, my monitor (that PYLE) only consume ~700mAh: with a 9800mAh, it could run up to 14hours when fully charged..
I'll take some picture next time i'll do another one, with bigger rods.

Thanks Drape, I will definitely look into those rigs. Do you recommend a shoulder support rig, or just the 2 bars?

    Thanks,
    Wes
