In which case Vishus, I will allow your entry.

RockDonkey: People wanted a trailer theme, so I gave it to them. The idea is to make a compelling story, and making it into a trailer.

I agree, for two reasons 1. The contest needs legit entries 2. Anyone could claim their footage was shot for the contest, how would you ever know for sure?

This means that RoyerFilms' proposal is good too?
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

    You want trailers?

Does anyone know why they're called trailers?

That obviously qualifies. The only reason I brought up the point was to preclude a potential entrant thinking it was OK to take footage shot prior to the contest start date and tossing excerpts together when the rest would be working from scratch.

I'd tend to be inclined to take his word for it.

If he shot new footage for it, or if he reshot existing scenes, yes. Otherwise he's already "got it in the can" and simply needs to edit while everyone else starts from scratch.

Everyone: All I'm doing here is trying to help this stay a real contest. Otherwise we go back to where several feel there ought to be "special concessions" and no one is happy. Then we see the old pattern of constant pressure to "rule change" begin to repeat and it will fall apart.

If everyone will just sit back and let the one moderator make all "calls" on what is allowed under the rules and what is not everyone has the same fair chance, and that is where this contest stands the best chance of continuing.

None here either Vishus, as long as you swear that what you're doing will stick to the rules set out, then go right on for it.

And you're confident that every entrant will use original footage because they swear so?

I think all of the people who are regulars here will. It's the new people you gotta watch out for, but I think people will film it just for this contest. The only reason to use stuff that wasn't for this contest is if it was really good. But whats the point of doing that just to win...if there's no prize?

This has not been a problem in the other contest venues I've followed. It shouldn't be a problem here, with the rules being stated with each contest they are plainly visible. So far if folks have had questions they've asked. The only real problem we have is that with each question we have several folks coming forth and trying to say what should be allowed and what should not, this should be for the moderator to respond to and decide.

Again, Vishus raised the question then stated he would be shooting fresh footage for the contest. I take him at his word as I would take you at your word.

Just to clarify, The short film would happen regardless of the contest, but the trailer will only exist because of the contest. The shooting dates are during the contest (tonight is day one of the shoot), but the shoot is more for the short film than the trailer. I have the OK from the director to create the trailer, and it will be "fresh" footage, but not shot for the sole purpose of the contest. I don't want to extend the issue, but I just wanted to make it clear, since there was some roundabout reasoning in my other posts.

All that said, I hope to see a bunch of entries this time. It seems people have been waiting for this one!

They're called trailers because, in the early days of cinema, they were shown after the feature. Then some smart people figured that you'd get more exposure if you screened them before the feature. The practice caught on, but the name stuck.

    Anybody start working on something?
I'll be checking locations availability tomorow, so if everything works, i'll start shooting later this week.

Well, I probably won't be able to film anything til next Monday, so that's probably when I'll film something (unless more damn snow storms pass!).

That would be great. I enjoyed the last trailer you've made. I'm interested to watch your progress...

If I can THINK of something that doesn't require more than one person or camera movements....

I have an idea now, but whether I can get it off the ground (literally! ) is the next question...
