    Red face Macbook+FCE 3.5?

Hi there, I am considering purchasing a HV20 and I was wondering how well, if at all, it would work with my computer.

    I have a:
    Macbook
    2.16GHZ
1GB RAM (but could upgrade to 2)
    120GB HD
    Intel GMA 950 - 64 MB VRAM
    OS: 10.4.11

Blah blah, you all probably know the rest.

My editing software is Final Cut Express 3.5, which can handle HDV, but I was wondering how well the HV20 will work with what I've got. I've heard that 24p doesn't work very well (or at all) with FCE/iMovie, is that true?

So, basically, how will the HV20 work with my comp?

    Thank you very much!

FCE does not support 24p. Neither iMovie does. Buy the latest version of FCE if you are not interested in 24p, or buy the latest version of FCP if you are. Or, if that's too expensive, get a PC and Vegas Platinum. Cheaper and it supports 24p and all the features that FCE has, for less money.

Will the HV20 be a totally pointless purchase without 24p? I was under the impression that 24p just changes the tone of the image - makes it more like "film film." If I don't need that, would the camera still be alright for FCE?

24p is about frames per second, not look (although if you use the CINEMODE setting in conjunction to 24p, the image will have more dynamic range which is better for post processing -- not to be exported as is straight out of the camera).

Read here about if you need 24p or not http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/1...oes-it-do-24p/

Besides, we are talking here about 24p with pulldown removed. I am pretty sure you are confused as hell right now. IM me or email me or I can arrange to give you a call and explain everything to you (I do that occasionally, nothing to worry about).

The camera shoots excellent HD video even without 24p. Even the SD-quality is excellent. I love the image and video quality, the manual controls and the assist functions during capturing video or pictures. its lightweigt, and of course the image stabilasiation is great. (It enables me to shoot upto 40x even without tripod).

The con's might be tape and some tape-noice which might effect your audio in very silent environments. Isn't a problem for me though

I work with FCE HD 3 and it is a great combination for shooting HD with the HV20.
