Default how'd they do this? seems simple, but i don't know!

i'm working on a project right now and i'm looking to try and creating an outline of a person in motion, while having a separate video be inside of that outline. seems quite doable in FCP/motion. any help greatly appreciated!

Yeah: seems simply like keying for the shapes + layers one over the others all on a black background.

awesome awesome AWESOMe reply, thank you Daniel. i have unfortunately forgotten to mention one major thing, this footage is already shot, and there is NO green screen, can this still be done???

even if not, that tutorial is sweet, and that website seems stellar for learning tricks in after effects and whatnot. so, thanks man..

Download the After Effects trial. With the new Roto Brush you don't need green screen anymore for stuff like that.

    Oops, no planning ahead?

Yes it can still be done, but it's a lot more work. Rotoscoping is time-consuming, and the edges won't be as smooth as with green screen.

Janke, you should try that Roto Brush. Pretty simple and very clean!

I guess it's something like the "Magic Lasso" in photoshop, right? Unless you have a very clean outline between foreground and background, it's hard to get an exact matte...

    After Effects
Doesn't have to be very clean (it helps though).

That's pretty amazing, actually. (But at over $800, I'd have to use it a lot, to pay for itself... )

It is cool! Sadly, neither yours nor my hardware really is up to that task. I have to wait until the US taxpayer will spring a Mac Pro for me ...

hey, sorry for the insane delay guys (for anyone who still cares). it took weeks before i could even have a chance to really get cracking on it.. and after that i simply forgot about posting it on here.

soo to push it out and get it done, the effect didn't quite come out what i had planned - wanted to use it much more, and with a more interesting mask. but, the bottom line is, this was just a thrown together video i made for friends, since the ppl at the sky diving place made REALLY lame ones... and now i know how to use rotobrush - so THANK YOU x2349489023 for giving me a hand with that. i really appreciate the time ppl take to teach me things.
