Default New Sony Line Up For 2011

It looks like they finally caved into the 60p, 24p demands.... also a 3D cam there.

The hard drives have not been lost either.... that's a good thing IMO.... it's nice to have the option of cards OR the internal HDD.

    1) do you think these exmor sensors really performs that well in low-light?
    2) a projector, is it only me or it's a totally useless feature on a camcorder...maybe i'm just too oldschool and still want to plug it in a TV with CABLES! (wired!)
    3) and i wonder about that 3D camcorder...2 sensors at the time...battery consuming...does it really worth it?

That being said, i know that sony camcorder are well built and worth the money spent on them, so it's good news that they finally came up with 60p and 24p, which are two nice framerate to be able to shoot with.
I wonder what the reviews will tell about these models.

edit: the HDR-HC9 is still available, nice to see that an HDV camcorder is still available along the new 3D model.

What's this... built in projector bull?

They're still selling the HC9 by the looks of it. Pretty decent camera I hear...

    1) Yes.
    2) Useless feature. Probably just a single bright led to project image not much larger then the screen itself.
    3) Not sure 3D is really worth it yet... won't be in my book anyway at least until we can see it on the big screen in full quality..... with NO glasses.

Yes it will. It's already happened on this camera. You don't need the 3D glasses to view 3D on its viewer.
It's also happened in real life for big screens. The trick now is to bring the price down to a consumer level. A few more years maybe

Toshiba I believe is first out of the box with it. It has a fairly narrow viewing field but I think when they fix that hick up and get the price down then 3D will be treated quite a bit more seriously.

They have 3D screens scattered throughout Shenzen airport. Forget the brand though.
It was impressive, although they only showed an animated demo, so not sure how real-life footage would look.

    Also, I think it's still not headache-proof.

Either way, the 3D era is coming. A lot of 3D commotion at CES this year. Personally speaking I think it's pretty neat stuff. I did a 3D family video a short time ago (the old fashion green/cyan type). It's not something I would do every day (a pain in the ass to do)... but it kind of knocked my socks off watching my kids in 3D!

I will say though that the wife didn't like it too much.... she gets dizzy easily.

I don't know if 3D will ever be headache and nausea proof. I watched the 3D demos at the Red User Group in LA. The problem is whether the cameras are wider or narrower than the viewer's eyes and the distance they are trying to make the object stand out from the screen.

Obviously everyone's eyes are a different distance a part, and it strains your eyes to make both eyes look outward (wider) as that's an unnatural movement.

I see one fatal flaw with this new line up, they're made by Sony.

Couldn't agree more. More useless bells and whistles, like the new Canon HF G10's touchscreen. Money and development wasted on useless, and frivolous, crap that could have been spent on more serious features.

Well I suppose if a more serious person wanted more serious features, they could always open the wallet a tad further and invest in a more serious camera?

Touché. But if I'm spending $1.5-$2k on a camera, I don't care about things like touchscreens and built-in projectors.

Well just like the pro line.... there are expensive consumer cams as well as cheap ones... but a more expensive consumer cam is still a consumer cam.

Sony has been touch screen for a long time, and now Canon has gone that way because it's what consumers want. I also think touchscreen is becoming pretty much a standard item in just about everything.... not just cams. The debit machines at BestBuy have all gone touchscreen now. How about GPS's... they're all touchscreen now. I just put a double din dvd player in my van and yes.... it's touch screen too. I don't think you can hold Sony (or Canon for that matter) responsible for that can you? It's just the way our technology is growing.

Projectors? I don't know.... the jury is still out on that. We'll have to see how well they work. To be honest though (if they work well) I can see it becoming quite popular with the consumer.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate touchscreens. I only dislike them when it involves a 2 or 3 inch screen or if it replaces my keyboard.
The manufacturers will always cater to the demands of the majority, which is a wise move to make profits. So from a business stand point, no I can't blame them for putting such things in their devices. From a personal / consumer stand point, I give them the one finger salute.

As for projectors, hopefully it's just a fad that will pass.

Well I don't know about that. There are some things that touch screens will allow you to do that would be tougher without. My GPS for example... simply touching a point on the screen instead of having to type it in. I've tried typing into my gps while driving.... almost rear-ended some one one time. Or Sony cams.... they have this feature called spot focus. Touch an area on the screen and the cam focuses on that specific area... good for fast dof shots. If used properly they can save a lot of extra work. I suppose that's why they appeal to so many now. Good for profits? Maybe.... but also good for the consumer.

Actually those new on-board projectors seem to work a little better than I thought they did. Still kind of silly IMO but none the less, have a look at the second video on the bottom:

Thanks for the link. You can have full HD 16GB Flash Memory Camcorder at $599. Beyond reasonable indeed.

    3. yes.

i picked one up really cheap and have to say it's good at what it does. i run it using a line alternate method and then show it on a passive 3d tv, and it does a great job as a consumer camera.
having two seperate systems on one camera is bulky, but it allows a lot more flexibility. plus, i haven't noticed too much battery difference.

i think there is a limit to what you can get by with as far as a lenticular screen like the sony uses to display 3d, very narrow viewing range.

Was that the screens, or the aftershave?
