    Question Portrait Vs Cine Mode

I have been doing quite a number of interviews with in-club shooting as of late (I am filming a documentary on stand-up comics) and I am typically in situations that require me to fire up my 126 LED camera lights. I am using my HV20 with wide angle adapter shooting in HD 24p in Cinemode and am finding that the footage looks good, but a little flat and bland. I guess I was hoping that the Cinemode combined with HD 24p would give me a really unique, classy result but I am not overly thrilled with it. It's okay...but not mind blowing. Do you think that shooting in lower light situations that require camera lights is not a good combo for shooting in Cinemode? Would shooting in portrait mode possibly bring the footage to life a bit more, especially when filming interviews (I am under the impressions that portrait mode zero's in on the subject and makes him/her more prominent?) Could the wide angle be affecting the image quality? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Happy holidays to all.

i think the problem can be resolved in post. It sounds to me that some color correction should do the trick.

CineMode is supposed to be flat, so that you have more leeway in post. You can increase contrast and saturation of CineMode in camera, too, use the Custom settings.
