Oh bo-boy...tried to instal it today. Seems like it worked..kind of...but I think there's something wrong somewhere as I never been able to see the "cinescop" crop mark. The volume meter and the manual audio setting seemed to work...but is it just me or it's not very easy to do? Step by step on the website are way better than any video tutorial I've watched.
Anyway, anyone else having trouble installing the ML Firmware?

In the build I'm using, which is a few months old, you have to select the crop mark you want to display. Also, the cropmarks need to be in a folder installed on the sd card. The instructions are pretty clear in the pdf that comes with each build.

Same situation here. Did exactly as it's told. I never saw these cropmarks. The volume meters are on, but not much more...ah well...

That's weird. Is it a current build? If you have the cropmark folder there it should show up. Not sure if it's a bug or something.

    I'll redo it again...damn.
Also, does it happens often to freeze or goes black?

None that I've run into. I have noticed some random buggyness when I first installed it, but when I installed a more recent build it ironed out.

All right. You can stone me to death...I replace the autoexec.bin with the one from the lasted version according to this video:

...and everything start working like a charm.

I don't know for others, I personally wasn't aware of that, but once you've installed/flashed the camera with the ML Firmware: you can simply format the card, copy&paste the crpmrk folder/other needed file onto the card and use EOScard to make it "bootable" and you're done. No need to re-do the whole process again, which was my first fear. Not that it's much complicated, but simply having to format, copy&paste and make it bootable is quick.
Btw, about the audio, once you turned off the AGC, I found out that the recording lever is very low, even with my SGM-1x (which has a pretty "hot" signal) boosted with my JuicedLink...I tried the same with my MB4k, which is way more quiet and the audio was barely audible...Not that I'll use the internal T2i's audio track as my main audio, but it records in PCM directly so I wanted to benefit from it...looks like it require a good boost. What's about your experiences?

I've noticed the low recording level too and as I (for now) shoot with a mic attached to the camera, it has hindered me a little and result having to up the volume in post. Still learning with the audio so it's been a bit difficult for me.

One question though for anyone: Is it necessary to format the card to get rid of the images on the it, or is it ok to erase the images from the camera and go on? I know without magic lantern I would format the card after the footage I needed was done, but with it I erase it from the cam, but not formatting it. Not sure if it messes with future footage or anything.

It may, if you have a slow class 6 card. With a reputable class 10, you should be ok.

I'm using a Transcend Class 10 16gb. I've been erasing them from the camera so far and had no problems yet (as far as I know). Just wouldn't want to to mess up randomly during a shoot.

I'm wondering if I'd be better with more smaller cards (4gb/8gb) or just pay a bit more and get 1x 16gb/32gb...

Since you can't shoot continuously over the 4 GB limit anyway, 8 GB cards would be OK, but you'd have to check the "Remaining Time" display diligently...

So, Charlie went out shopping for me while I was working. For 162$CND, I got a Transcend 32Gb Class10 and a ProFlash 4Gb Class10. She's been to the local photo store, where the girl has so well explained to me about the T2i!
From what I've tested already, the Transcend is way more faster than the Kingston. I haven't seen the buffer icon and I tried to record 4 videos one after the other. Looks like it's probably one of the best for the price. And 32gb, if it doesn't gives me error when recording movies...I'll be able to store everything on a single card when shooting a short (while it's not advised > in case of data loss)

As I've said before, I've used Transcend 16GB class 6 cards, and only when the card has been fragmented have I got a buffer meter or a stopped recording. With a freshly formatted card, and no files deleted during shooting, I can record to the brim without any problems.

Hi all recently upgraded my 550d 1.0.9 to ML with the latest version I seem to be missing quite a few of the menu's including the auto restart clip recording. (very useful to me as the 550d is a B cam on weddings.) does anyone know what im missing? A FW version that does this? Secret button sequence etc, I'm presuming it should be under the delete button and then within one of the side menus? Is this something I might have messed up in the copying files to the card in the instal?

Assuming you are using the latest version of ML:

Click the "Trash Can" button to activate ML settings.
Under the "Movie" menu, it should be listed as the 5th one down and is called "Movie Restart". It is disabled by default. Read the PDF that come with ML. It is very helpful.

Did you follow the install procedures in the pdf that came with ML? Do you see ML loading when you turn on your camera?

Just wanted to share with you guys, if you have like me, to reformat and reinstal ML on your cards from times to times. Here's a zip file containing a "pre-installed" version of Magic Lantern August 17th built (which works like a charm).
But remember, you can use this ONLY if you have previously installed Magic Lantern on your camera using the install guide.
I've done some custom cropmarks too, one that is grey and works just as good in bright light than in low-light.
Everything is packed in the zip file, EOScard.exe and instructions.txt also:
    Folders.png
Here's the fils that are in the "Pre-Installed" folder and that should be present on the SD card:

Here's the cropmarks I use, 2 or 3 of them are custom and work better in some situations:
1.85:1 & 2.40:1, plain & simple without safe zone marks:
    CineSco0.png

One of my custom cropmarks. Light grey, so it can be used in both dark and bright environement, and it's not that much distracting.
    CineSco5.png

One of my custom cropmarks. Dark grey so it's not distracting, but in dark enviroments, you don't see it quite good.
    CineSco4.png

One of the cropmarks that comes with the ML build. Nice, but you can't see what's masked, which can be usefull, or not, depending the situation:
    CineSco3.png

One of the cropmarks that comes with the ML build. The black "safe zone" marks are a bit useless when shooting in dark areas:
    CineSco1.png

The same as above, but with grey marks (can be distracting) and which can be used both when shooting in bright and dark environement:
    CineSco2.png

They're in .bmp in the link of my previous post, along with the lastest ML build to date.
