I installed the Magic Lantern firmware yesterday and shot for the past 24 hours, video and photos. No problems of any kinds. Really like the zebra, the audio levels, the manual audio gain control, the intermediate ISOs and the lens data. Still wish there were USB audio monitoring, though. I can't complain too much. Magic Lantern is seriously awesome.

Just did the ML firmware update. WOW!
    Lost sleep …..
For some reason can't do it on my MacPro and MacBook Pro. So I did it on my WIndowns T laptop no problem.

I guess I have to work on color balancing between my Hv20 and T2i …

Actually I bought it very cheap from Future Shop (20 days ago), a T2i+kit lens +70 to 200 mm F4L = $1,300 (6o days no payment.)
    I am very happy.

Here's a reason to use the Magic Lantern firmware:

This guy shows that the so-called "native ISOs" like 160 and 320 are significantly lower-noise than the ISOs provided by the camera (100, 200, 400, etc). I was excited about ML because of AGC defeated, but I am thrilled about this.

To be really honest, I'd like to have seen all the examples adjusted to the same brightness. Now, the "native" ISOs were all darker, and a darker image does show less noise - even if it is exactly the same.

Not enough proof for me, yet. But the other goodies in ML are very tempting...

That, and the histogram, would be the main reason for me to use ML (and manual audio, of course!)

I've asked a few times but no real responses, sorry for asking again I installed ML a while ago and whenever I turn the camera off I need to take the battery out and back in to turn it back on again. Does anyone else have this problem? And is there a fix?

    Thanks heaps

This is interesting, I will give it a go once I get ML working properly.

i finally get correct exposures thanks to ML. Less editing to even footage out equals happy times.

Tried to do the Hack all today. No success. installed the firmware on my camera (i think) If it was done correctly does it still say i have the canon firmware 1.09? Cause finished it and the ML install screen showed up and then boldly said DONE! then I waited for the red light to go away. Turned my camera off and then took the battery out. then when I followed the steps for the card I put the card in the camera and the camera didnt turn on!!! I got scared to death. Took out the card and formatted it on my computer. everything seems to be working now. But now I am at a loss. I want the ML hack but I am deathly afraid of bricking now that I got a glimpse of it.

I guess now ML is permanently installed on my camera's hardware but if I want it to do anything i need to get things right on the card?

Help. I'm like a scared child...

This was a compile error in one of the earlier A1ex builds. Try a newer one, especially a 1.0.9 one.

Crowning: First of all, make sure you installed Canon's offical 1.0.9 firmware first, then the hack. After that, insure that your card is bootable and you have all the appropriate files (mainly autoexec.bin).

The first thing I did was update the firmware so I got that done fine. I guess my issue lies in the whole thing of making the card bootable. Because I am pretty sure I handled just copying files to the card. Not much that can go wrong there. So I guess I need to be more clear on the whole card thing.

Ok quick question. I'm reading the ML forum and Alex keeps posting zip files that are builds I'm assuming every other day to improve the hack. Are we suppose to use each one to fix our ML or can we go to the latest one which is today and it will add everything the other 5 or 6 before where doing? Hope this makes sense....

I updated my firmware with the Magic Lantern firmware and it is quite awesome. I also thought I had killed my camera when I didn't follow the SD card prep procedure. I did it on my macbook, very easy to panic and think you're going to screw something up, but you should be fine. Making your SD card bootable is where people get lost. If you haven't done so or have tried and failed, be sure to remove your battery before you try again. I'm not sure, maybe it was part of my panic mode, but in earlier versions of the firmware, people mentioned their batteries draining even when their cams were "off'. So if your cam doesn't turn on, just a thought, maybe you drained the battery. Or maybe i'm way off base and this has already been fixed.

Only advice I can give is make sure you have the most up to date stuff. The zip file from Alex was released on the 24th I believe, that one kicks ass. There's some good youtube vids as well:
I preferred this one the most

You should have installed 2 firmwares. One from canon and one from the Magic Lantern repository. I'm just extra-triple-checking here to make sure I don't lead you on a snipe hunt. You're absolutely sure you installed the official firmware 1.0.9 first, and then the ML hack after that?

Thats what I did and thats where I am stuck. I guess its because I have tried a few different video tutorials. and they all have different methods. It confuses the hell out of me. I am a mac user. but since I dont have a card reader I am using my girlfriend's pc cause It has a built in card reader. I just got a 32 gig card today and I think I am going to give it another go. I am going to assume that the only thing I need to do from now forward is make the card bootable and copy the files. Can someone post the best video tutorial for pc that they have found?

if you don't have a card reader, maybe you have another device you can use as a card reader on your Mac ?

any other digital camera that allows you to read the SD card is fine. I use my Zoom H2 as a card reader on my Mac.

Update: I finally got ML to run. I have been playing around with it. I love the features. But I have to be honest. It's scares me to death. My camera freezes periodically whenever it really pleases. Mostly when I am switching from live view to video review. The screen stays on even after I turn off the T2i. The only effective way is to take the battery out. I don't know about anyone else but I am afraid of the long term effects. Like that my new 32 gig card is getting really really hot and I am afraid this hack is making it's lifespan shorter.

I got two 8 GB cards. I was thinking same thing. I am wondering if the hack will mess up the cards?
