Default Fotodiox m42 to eos adapter: manual focus on camera is now super stiff?

I just received my m42 to eos adapter for the 50mm takumar lens and unless I leave the fotodiox adapter very loose, the manual focus ring on the lens gets super tight as it approaches infinity. Is this normal for an adapter ring? The lens when it is not attached to the adapter/camera is very smooth and consistent. However as soon as I attach it with the adapter/camera, I have the aforementioned problems.

Send it back for a replacement, but don't be surprised if the replacement does the same thing. I went through two Nikon to EOS adapter rings that the lens would not mount to because the one side of the ring was not machined deep enough.

Seems like the vendor had a whole batch like that. They are literally "churning" adapter rings out in China with little or no attention to QC.

A private individual sold me one of his and it worked but now I'm sticking with Canon lenses...I pay the price, mutter under my breath and move on.

Do not continue to use that lens adapter. Something is binding and you could cause lens damage.

Ah I guess this explains my problem: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/631848

Anyone know of a "rim-less" m42 to eos adapter?

    Do you need AF confirm?
If so, I believe this one is rimless - http://haodascreen.com/m42.aspx

If you don't need AF confirm, buy a cheap one and file down the rim -

That's the one I have. Works great. Although I have no problems with the rim. I believe it is chrome plated brass. Should take you about an hour to file down by hand unless you use a Dremel tool.

Here's some non-AF confirm adapters that appear to be rimless. Although I can not say for sure.

Ask explicitely for the one without back flange.
Works fine for my Mir 24-M.

What's the best way to file down the rim and what should I use to do it? I have two adapters right now that have a rim so I wouldn't mind filing those if it doesn't take too long.

A round, semicoarse file would work - it does take some time, and you'd be wise to put the adapter in a vise while working, but in any case the result won't look nice...

A lathe would be a better choice than a file...

I don't understand why you should mess with diy, when for a couple of bucks you can get an adapter with no back flange, that is what you need...
