Default SONY NEX VG10!! DSLR Frankenstien-VIDEO-CAMERA

    SONY NEX VG10!! DSLR Frankenstien-VIDEO-CAMERA
this camera just about blew me away!!! I've since found out that they make a nikon lens adapter for it, as well as canon, and PL MOUNT LENS etc.

This camera is exciting because of DOF -- the price point of $2,000 and going down.

No XLR input, but I can deal with that. I do wish there was a manual audio setting, but I can still deal.

Wow... that looks awesome. Trust Sony to be fashionably late to the party!

Check this out. They are using a PL mount with a Arri film camera lens. With all the bells and whistles.

This is a swiss film acedemy shooting this.

    I can translate though!!!

Basically he's saying if your thinking of getting a DSLR your crazy, and this camera is freaking awesome.

    Aren't Arri lenses like $10,000 a pop? Why put a $10,000 lens on a $2000 camera?

LMAO!!!! The one they used is like $3900, but yeah they go up to like $25,000. Those lens are insane, even though the video they shot really doesn't show that. I think they up'd the saturation, and added blue.

Most productions don't buy the lens they rent them or the DP owns them.

I think they already had the lens -- this is a film acedemy making the video.

This is really close to the lense they used

BUT THAT"S WHY I CALL it a Frankenstien camera!!!

Daniel, in my old Nikon days, my bread and butter lenses mostly surpassed the price of the body. F90+FM2 ~around 700 bucks ea., /2.8 Nikkor starting at 900... cheapest was my 50/1.4 for around 400.
    Then my Mamiya MF kit...
And now you know why wedding folks HAVE to ask more than 400 bucks a gig.

Is there any word if they gonna update the firmware with some kind of peaking for MF and zebras?

And 24p for us in NTSC land?

Never mind 24p (don't forget, this is a soccermom cam). Found out, it has at least a histogram. The MF assist peak would be more than nice though. With that shallow DOF, MF is crucial, and an old fart like me might need some help to where he's focusing to.

The Swissvideoacademy (all in Schwietzerdüütsch) has put it through its paces. Despite all its shortcomings, it seems to be an interesting camera. Especially, since I have found out that I can use my old Nikkor AIS on it (25 bucks for an ebay adaptor)

Hi, I am a manufacturer KIPON NIKON F → NEX by Mount Adapter to Ai-s NIKKOR lenses. 15mmF3.5/24mmF2/35mmF1.4/55mmF 3.5/85mmF1.4/135mmF2/300mmF4 Nikkor I used to shoot this video.

I was considering one of these last month, I am hoping the next model comes with more options for sure. The lens option was a plus, but the short list of frame rates killed the deal for me.

I work with 30p/60i, so it is fine with me.... I'm a video producer, not a film maker....

The prices have come down quite a bit $1599-$1650. The VG20 is on the way, 11-11-2011. Has some really needed features to help with exposure and a 24p frame rate, $2200.00 (est.).

The concern with purchasing the VG10 was that I would be down grading from my DSLR rather than having a camera to compliment it. I have only shot f24 (or 24p) twice. Because I was able to do this with my own gear and was availible, I am vested in a couple of films. I personally do not shoot in f24, but when the phone rings it is nice to have it on the shelf for sure. I think it looks nice, but takes a little more effort to produce overall. I would consider 60i and 30p a sketch and 24p a painting.
