    Default Epic Ready!

"EPIC was officially declared ready for production today. We have prototypes that pass all the requirements we set out the past few months. That means we will finish the Tattoo program and put Tattoos on special jobs and begin ordering all the parts and pieces (over 18,000) to begin production. It will take a bit of time to set up the line and gather all we need, but the end is in sight.

Just to be clear, not every feature is currently enabled, but the most important ones are and the build seems very stable as a foundation. We expect 95% of the features to be ready by the time production EPICs are released."
    per Jim Janard.

Productions in Australia and New Zealand to receive Epics for their shoot.

I assume that recording is within the 95%.

Does that read a lot like 'please don't buy an HF100 or a DSLR please please please' or is it just my cynical nature?

Nah I don't read it as that. I read it that this guy is finally happy to be over with the stress of these things. People probably pestered him alot.

Can't wait to buy one. How much are they? $50? $100? Hopefully not much more. I don't wanna break the bank.

I'm probably a bit cynical too since Jim J. has made an announcement each time someone else has announced a new camera, whether it was the 5D, 7D or AF100, etc. and its just been an announcement of an announcement.

95%? Are they kidding? I thought the reason we all had to wait so long was so that their cameras will be 100% perfect. What a joke.

Reminds me of the video game industry. Super Smash Brothers Brawl was delayed 3 times over a period of at least six months under the assumption that more development would make the game absolutely perfect. As it turned out, it was significantly glitchier than its predecessor, and had several game-breaking flaws. Sometimes, waiting isn't worth it. We'll see.

That's 95% when they are ready to ship. They're just passing out a few prototypes for directors to use and give feedback right now. On the Red One the first examples used in movies were very glitchy.

A few weeks ago I saw Indian chaps on a shoot on Pattaya beach - they were using a RED, it was a big mother (like the one below) - quite a beautiful machine.

If the past is any indication, the REAL stress is yet to start!

You really think they won't hit snags going into production? :O

Well yeah, but not as much as making them.
