Regarding log lines... I like this idea, as it appears that many people can't get any ideas from the one word themes. Giving people a plot line, allowing them to fill in the blanks (thus not restricting them to genre) seems like it could work. I will try this out for the next theme... Yay or nay?

An idea that could be fun... Just writing it here.

A moment in the film. The film maker should make this moment interesting. For instance: ten seconds where nothing happens, but this silence means
something interesting in the story. Or the opposite: too many things happens at the same time so that the film maker needs to explain to the viewer
    wtf everything just happened.

    Some ideas :
    1) Insomnia
    2) a Face-to-Face / Duel
    3) Item > Briefcase
    4) Item > Cellphone

    Another wild idea.

What if someone would shoot an interesting story and leave it in the middle... Then the competition would be to continue the story and create
the ending exactly how you feel like. The first part could either be done by someone with enough time and the script could be discussed and
approved here before he shoots. OR it could be done as a competition and the winning film is the one that will be used. The first part would be
below a minute. Needs to be snappy.

Hey Daniel, if you take the best from the suggestions here, can we turn this thread (or a new one for a specific contest date, and create a new one every contest) into a public poll so we could choose hat we'd like to make from the suggestion instead of being set one? (not sure how to say it, hope you'll get the point)

Here's an idea i've just thought about: recreate a western-like sccene in a contemporary environement.

Let me know what you think about it guys.

How exactly did you mean? I'm really interested in that (I like westerns... ), and feel quite up to the challenge! Shooting myself again?? Well....

It's a good idea, but I think it's too dense of a subject given that everyone isn't so versed in westerns or knowing if any given person likes them.

I would do something more along the lines of the thing I suggested before of recreating a movie scene. It doesn't have to be shot for shot, line for line, or anything like that (but it very well could be), but it must keep the spirit and point of the scene.

    I am eagerly anticipating..

Edit: Did you send Daniel suggestions, since you won the contest, or is he just going to pick?

    1) Just as I do.
    2) Yeah, I've send him my suggestion, but never heard from him since. He's probably busy, that's why it takes so long to start the next contest.

edit: I'm wondering when it will be officially announced, winner & next theme.

I like the idea of any period scene translated to a contemporary environment.

Sorry guys, Bit late on the updating of the new contest. It's real busy here at the moment, planning two short films and writing one to shoot very soon.

I will have the new theme up ASAP.

I missed this when you posted it in December. I think it is an ambitious yet fantastic idea!

I would enter Antman's if I had any ideas, I can't seem to get past the script writing part, no matter how open it is. I know, it's not really a good excuse, but I feel creatively dysfunctional at the moment.

I think lots of people here are like this as I have been following the contest closely for the last couple months.

How can we get past this?

    My suggestion:

Maybe their should be one where the script (or better yet a choice of 2 or 3 scripts) is provided to the entrants? Something not to complex, then the entrant could take it as far as they like technically speaking, according to their time and resources.

What do ya think? I'm sure there would be more entrants.

(BTW, someone should change the "Current Contest" to reflect the current contest, it's not Christmas anymore... unfortunately.)

I think it's a good idea, but then you will also need to find people who will be willing to submit the scripts and such. The idea reminds me of RockDonkey's idea some responses above, where the beginning of the story is already started, like a problem that leads into the 2nd act, then the filmmaker take it wherever they want and come up with an ending.

Another way to solve any idea blocks is to see if anyone here will be willing to help you with a script. I did so with Daniel who gave me a script for the "book" contest and it worked out pretty with in my submission "The Last Page". Gave me time to focus more on directing and such.

I guess we'll see if any of these ideas will be implemented in a future contest. It would be good to see and what kind of interest it brings in.

Maybe the mod could pick a few from here or other places online?

Also, on another note, this might be helpful for some people in these contests...

I like the idea of the script thing, but not every month. Another thing to keep in mind is the number of characters. I know I don't have access to more than 3 or 4 characters for any extended period of time.
