Thats kind of a broad statement that you could say that about any distributor, but I generally buy from those that I'm familiar with (like batteries.com). Mine are lasting as long as the Canon batteries and even if they had a little less capacity, it was hard to go wrong at $8.Originally Posted by jotkeycom

I did the same thing you did - I didn't order from another place or whatever. This sale itself is not even specific enough for me to fight back - other than say the picture didn't match up exactly. They purposely designed it that way. Do they give a specific brand with rating and such? No, they just say replacement batteries. You got lucky while I spent $20 bucks for two batteries that don't last more than 20 minutes.
You say, "you could say that about any distributor"; well I don't agree. It depends on the deal, it depends on the companies involved. If the sale had specifics, then the consumer could fight back. If it was a more reputable company, the chance of this type of thing would be almost non-existent and I would say "go for it". But that's not how it was setup, it's not what's going on - so I can't recommend it.
However, I do appreciate your efforts at getting the information out and trying to help out the community. It's not your fault I have this distaste and you obviously aren't the one trying to trick people. Thanks for the effort, but I don't know if it's worth the risk at the moment for this particular sale. If anyone else ordered these batteries please post if you got the batteries DaFireMedic got, or the batteries that I received (pictures for each are above). If it turns out I'm the only one, then maybe it's worth it after all...
I apologize, I guess I wasn't clear with my question. When you order from Amazon, the order isn't always coming from them as there are many distributors who sell through Amazon. There are 2 distributors shown in that ad (there were 3 the other day) for those batteries and you have the option of ordering from any of those listed. As I mentioned in my first post, I chose to order mine from Batteries.com because I had had positive experiences with them in the past. I was asking if you had ordered through Batteries.com as well. The other one listed there is a company called Bargaincell, who I have no experience with and who I suspect is the company that you ordered through. If Batteries.com sold you the wrong battery, I would like to know so that I do not recommend them anymore. I believe that one company is selling the batteries as advertised, and the other is slipping in "compatible" batteries that are not the ones pictured, and that is dishonest regardless of the lack of technical specifics in the ad. I want to know which of the companies pulled this bait and switch scheme on you, because you clearly did not receive the batteries that were advertised.
Also, even if you do not find it worth it to fight this, you should at least leave negative feedback for the seller on Amazon, and write a review of the batteries stating that what you received was very different from the ones pictured. Make sure to mention which distributor it came from.

Yeah, I'm leaving negative feedback right now. Yeah, it was bargain sale - Amazon seemed to have defaulted to that somehow... I didn't know better and I just let Amazon pick for me.
UPDATE: I just ordered TWO more of these batteries from batteries.com this time around - this will be the real test. I really hope I didn't waste another $20.00.

If people want replacement batteries for the HV series of camcorders, I recommend the ones that Taky (LunchBox) sells on his website. I bought one from him almost a year ago and so far it works perfectly. In fact, in all the events I've shot I've had no need to change the battery as it quite easily lasts for 5 hours approximately. Don't be cheap getting $8 batteries. Lunchbox's batteries are cheap enough and proven to last.

OK, but either way I still recommend the batteries Lunchbox sells. If I need another, I will get it from him.
I bought 2 8€ batterys off eBay from Hong Kong and they rock. Last me up to 3 hours on my HV30 as the original one after 2 years only lasts 15 minutes. A new one from canon costs 80€ and lasts only 1 hour.
I got the new batteries from batteries.com and they are the correct ones! Woot!!!!

That's great. I can't give an opinion on that kind of batteries. But I can surely say the batteries he sells for the HV series are a great deal for the price and work just fine. They last a long time too. Why buy the original battery when a replacement seems to work as good?

If you have an HV20/30/40 then the long life battery Lunchbox sells works just fine. Can be charged with the camcorder and it shows battery life correctly too. It lasts like 4+ hours, depending on use of course.
