    Default D7000 D3100 1080P and full AF

Nikon rumours is reporting both the D7000 and the D3100 to have full HD and full time AF during video recording.

Now I don't know about you but the D3100 seems like damn good value for money sporting the kind of specs it does.

I'm currently using a 550d for my stills and bought it to combing my 1000d and HV40 into one and a few things Canon do (or don't) have been niggling me, maybe the D7000 will be what pushes me over the edge?

If only I knew of something equivalent to the 70-200 F/4 L (quality and price!) I have and I think I will!

(Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I hadn't seen it).

Not sure if it was covered here but the D3100 is out D7000 is still a rumor.

    http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Ni...472/D3100.html

It doesn't have a mic input, or a decent LCD screen (230k dots compared to 920k - 1m of Canon's HDSLRs).
I wouldn't bank on AF as a selling point, unless you have some nice SWM glass to shoot with you're better off focusing shots manually.

    and we find out
    http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/15/n...gnesium-alloy/

Nikon D7000 brings 39-point AF, 1080p video, and magnesium alloy construction to $1,200 price point

If you don't want to hate your current camera, look away now. Nikon's 16 megapixel D7000 has landed into the world of officialdom with a bang, bringing with it an almighty 39-point autofocus system, 100 percent viewfinder coverage, 1080/24p and 720/30p video options, dual SD card slots, a standard ISO range of 100 to 6400, 6fps burst mode for up to 100 shots, and magnesium alloy top and back covers for that extra bit of metalized durability. The continuous video autofocus that debuted in the D3100 is here too, though bear in mind there's a 20 minute cap on uninterrupted recordings. Video nuts will also appreciate a stereo mic input, while plenty of others will like the addition of a second control dial to adjust shooting modes. It's looking like a comprehensive upgrade from the D90, but keep in mind that Canon's direct competitor -- the 60D -- costs a Benjamin less than the D7000's $1,200 body-only asking price (or $1,500 with an 18-105 kit lens) , so take the time until this becomes available in mid-October to weigh up your options well. Oh, and the outfit's also throwing out two new pieces of high-end glass alongside a new flash: an AF-S 200mm f/2G ED VR II for $5,999.95, an AF-S 35mm f/1.4G for $1,799.95 and an SB-700 Speedlight for $329.95.

Saw the Benevolent one yesterday.. Looked clean...with aliasing in very few frames.

Check out the guy's shirt at 1:11 and 3:37 on the "road test" video, and note the lack of moire. Good job, Nikon!

I'm trying to figure out if this cameras has control over aperture, shutter speed, and ISO in D-Movie mode. If it does, this looks like a very good competitor to the 7D.

Has me torn 'tween the 60D and it.

I'd like to see footage in the same settings and same scenes from both cameras, as the Nikon looks more vivid in all the movies (I prefer a neutral look).
My skills are vast, rendering me capable of too many things.

I'm interested in how well the AF works. It could be nice for wedding work.

    Terrible jell-o, mostly overexposed.

If you're going to publish a test, it should be done well, not like this...

Doubt exposure would help the terrible panning Jello look better... Plus it's in auto from what it looks like. Which apparently works just as good as the auto focus.

That was terrible footage. Over-exposure creates more jello effect?

Was that the auto-mode in action?

I've checked the video in this thread, is this only what the D3100 is able to produce?
I could have a deal for one, body only, and as i already own 3 nikon lens...but the jello-effect in that video is ugly...
Anybody knows if it can produce something decent or it's just not comparable to the T2i or any other DSLR?
Would it be a good buy at all...?

Man, Nikon seems to be really drowning themsleves in too many models and the D90, which just a year ago was arguably their anchor, has no market. I think there are at least 2 or 3 new cameras from Nikkon that are cheaper and have better features all around, not to mention Canon's new stuff. Why do this? A guy I work with bought his D90 from B&H last year and everybody was so jealous. Now, everyone is so glad they didn't drop $1500 to get a nice camera with some candy, and is doing just fine with their T2i kits.

And why is some ridiculous 39 point AF system all the rage for a camera type that should be all about manual control? If you want AF and easy funtions then get a Coolpix or a cybershot. Do people really think they need to look like they have a pro camera? I guess I'm confused. Either Nikkon has decided to sell-out or they're stumbling around and making too many fast decisions. I feel bad for the guy who got the D90 now because he overpaid for what it does. Am I wrong? Does the D90 have a better censor or something?

Anyone thinking of just starting with DSLRs for video would need to think hard about the Pana GH2,its what i would get if i were buying now.
