Default Bye bye HV30, and hello T2i.

I just got the Canon Rebel T2i. It's a freakin amazing camera.

I'm writing a script for a feature film I plan to make with this camera. It's amazing! And the kit lens is WAAAAAAY underrated. it's also great for the price.

I'm going to be getting a 50mm prime soon, a Zoom H1, audio recorder, and maybe a new shotgun mic (my Azden smx-10 isn't really a shotgun mic).

Tell me what you think! (btw, I accidentally shot at 1600 ISO)

Coulda used a steadycam or something to stabilize, kinda nauseating too watch all the shaking. Grats though!
Do not view me as a critic or a judge. I just tell it how I see it, valuable or not.

Watch the whole thing. I used the MiniDV stabilizer near the end.

Just got my Zoom H1 in the mail few days ago, and god damn is it great! So long as you tweak the settings accordingly (and use a shot-gun mic, even though the on-boards are pretty incredible as well), you can get some fantastic audio out of it. Though the battery life is almost criminally short, so be sure to carry a pack of AA's with you wherever you go!

Jesus. This camera never ceases to amaze me. I order MY t2i last Friday, and cannot wait to try out this puppy. I like that you shot people, unlike everybody else on youtube that just shoot flowers or other crap in their backyard.

I've got my HV40 now, but once I have these cams in my possession I feel like I'll be set for a long time.

    Great vid, bud. Great shots.

I'm guessing not, but do you have any experience with the H2 or H4n?

I'm going to buy one very soon. I have the money and everything. I'm sure the azden smx-10 and the onboard mic of the h1 will work for now. Especially on a boom pole.

Why not take advantage of watcha' got, and use them together? That's what I've been doing with my Rode NTG-2.

Palmer, I'm looking into the H1... do you reckon you could tell me how long your battery life is? And could you upload some sound tests?

Welcome to the T2i club Ben!
Which kit lens did you go for? If it was the 18 to 55 then you might consider getting a better zoom lens with a longer length instead of a 50 prime.

I'd say the magic number is somewhere between three and four hours (not entirely sure though, as my batteries seem to be mysteriously draining even while the H1 is turned off). As for sound tests, I might though you really shouldn't hold your breath. I've been under a mountain of stress lately between schoolwork and family issues, etc....I hardly have any time to even THINK about film-making!

Yea it was the 18-55mm. But right now, that's all the distance I want. I want a fast 50mm prime with either f1.8 or f1.4 next. The kit lens can go upto 50mm, but at 50mm it only lets you go up to like f5.0, and i'd like f1.8 because of the super shallow depth of field and the low light.

I don't really need a telephoto lens though. 55mm is equal to about 85mm after the 1.6x crop, so maybe after the 50mm prime, then i'll get a telephoto zoom maybe.

Don't sell all your equipment! if you have to sell anything, then sell just 1 camera body. not the equipment! I still have my hv30 and I would never sell it!

Find a job, use that money for the t2i. Don't sell your equipment unless you're 100% sure that you're not going to use it again.
