Most film festivals play PAL and NTSC but if you need to fix the audio it's a simple 4% slow down to match to a 23.98 output. I did it before when going out to film. Going out to film for small art-house features is no longer needed and a waste of 50 grand unless you have US distribution on a major scale. I received my nex VG10E yesterday. Right now the down side is the LCD and Viewfinder turn off when you plug in the HDMI cable and it senses power through it. It record out to my nanoflash you have to disable something in the set up and turn off all display or it will record out. Sony is being a little prickish unlike Canon with the HV20. works great with that camera. I plan to buy the Zacuto viewfinder when it comes out. Anybody out there doing any experimenting with getting the uncompressed signal out?

Even if I had the money, I'd wait to see if Canon comes out with something to compete. If I'm going to buy an interchangeable lens camcorder, it better be able to use Canon L glass.

This seems like a very interesting camera. Just a couple of questions relating to shooting similar-ish to film.

    Q) The Sony NEX-VG10E European/UK model has 25p scanning. Is this the same as the 25p mode on Canon's PAL region camcorders? ie near movie-like frame rate?

The Canons' can use Depth of Field adaptors, you buy one and use it. Does the lens provided with the VG10E create the same depth of field image?

    thanks!

Anyone having problems with the microphone on this video camera picking up excessive handling noise? I've been playing with the camera all day and no matter how I try to hold it, inevitably there are creaks, groans and other noises picked up by the mic from my handling of the video camera. I've tried holding my hand as steady as I can, but it seems like even the slightest movement of a finger will generate some bad noise in the final footage. Not sure what to do here, I've checked for external mics for this camera and found just the one, the ecm-cg50 but apparently it's mono and very directional. I tried using the 'scorpion handle' rig that I have, but even when using that lots of handling noise gets picked up. Anyone else having this issue? Not really sure how to resolve this aside from I guess making a custom rig that isolates me as much as possible from the mic?

yes it is the 25p PAL. The DOF on this camera is inherent due to the sensor size. No need for adapters unless it is to use other lens like Canons or Nikons.
