    Default Rep System Disabled?

Is the rep system disabled now? I'm logged in and not seeing it anymore.

IMO, not really a bad thing. It didn't make much sense anyway. Just wondering if it has been disabled or not?

    Yes, Mal scrapped it.
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

That's great news. Shigeta just had somebody give him negative rep on 40 of his posts.

great, now nobody would know who's been naughty recently... :-(

IMO, the rep system is there to warn you about trolls...

I believe this forum not only needs its rep system back, but also some sorta RPG kinda feature, where you could earn HP points based on the quality of the posts, participation, etc. and exchange those HP points for .... er... tapes? :-P

What about those who don't have the tape workflow anymore? In a way, I'm kind of glad the rep system is gone, because if someone gets a spite against someone else, they start could start thumbing down their reputation.

It should be set up so Mal has to personally authorize every single rating. He won't mind, he's not busy!

I think the rep may have started when I suggested last year to mark certain posts as "best answer", so that when someone does a search they don't have to sift through all the posts. Mal then added the thumbs feature.

    So sorry/glad it's gone.

well, by that logic we should ban knives because "somebody might" get angry and slaughter people...

dunno, but personally I tend to dislike this kinda "fear control" behavior...

if somebody manages to get HATED/LOVED, then it's HIS/HER/ITS fault...why do we all have to pay the price for something A BUNCH OF PEOPLE didn't know how to control?

it was going fine until "three" people complained..

Fine indeed, but I prefer to walk in and buy knives if I have to cook something, without worrying about the people that MIGHT use them for killing.

    CHEERS!

That's actually what happened with the long guns in Ontario, as someone killed some high school students with a shotgun, and so now everyone has to register their long guns. Hand guns are illegal, but they aren't required to be registered. Thanks to Mr. McGinty...

But I'll keep politics out of this, as I could go on...

    BACK TO THE TOPIC!!!!!

A moderator for rep might be an idea, but that could get complicated for the poor guy/gal/whoever is put in charge.

Someone PM me few days ago saying he was involved in a stupid discussion in the Pub. Now his rep goes down a bit. He wanted the green square back and suggested things happen in the Pub shouldn't affect reputation.

    My response is

"In real life, you earn your reputation by behaving well in society, public, helping people... good virtue. stuff like that. So then when you go to a bar behaving badly, and you think that behavior shouldn't be counted because you are in a bar? That's not right."

this is the sort of stuff that infuriates me about lame law-making

how can somebody check if you're registering or not a gun that is ALREADY supposed to be illegal? lolzzzzz

    XD

and BTW, most killers and thieves don't register anything, that's because they're ... er... trying to not-get-caught?

so IN THE END, the decent population is forced to have LESS FREEDOM because of some SOBs that didn't know how to behave.

and KNIVES are not weaponry,(per se) so my metaphor still applies to pretty much anything that MIGHT BE USED TO KILL but you can still buy it at the store:

    - rat poison

    - pesticides

    - chainsaws

    - cars (a lot of people have been killed by them I've heard)

    - heavy chairs

    - hammers

    - nail-guns

    - razorblades

    - a bit etc.

but OF COURSE, only guns killl people....

    p.s.: YES, I'M A RADICAL LIBERTARIAN

    :-)

BRING BACK THE REP SYSTEM! lolzzz :-P

Somehow a rep thread turns into a gun vs. no gun thread. This is usually where the rep spamming star--

    oh yeah, no more rep!

    Point and case.

OT but speaking as a someone who once had a restricted firearm license in Canada: Unless things have changed drastically in the last 2 or so years, Handguns are restricted not illegal. You require a Restricted firearms license to own them, it's not all that hard to get provided you have a clean record and take the classes. All handguns must be registered and had to be years before the long gun registry clusterfudge.

It was great when people knew how to use it smartly. ...it's a good thing that Mal disabled it since our last Grand-Rep-Spam-Festival.
I DO IT BECAUSE I CAN. I CAN BECAUSE I WANT TO. I WANT TO BECAUSE YOU SAID I COULDN'T.
