Thumbs up 35mm Rig Almost Finished...

My vibrating 35mm rig is almost ready. Just one gear for the follow focus is needed...

The good lady wife, encouraging and supportive as ever, laughed and said it looks ridiculous. No wonder I married her and gave her babies.

My youngest likes to get in on the act, by pulling down my backdrop and using it as a bedspread...

Worley, with that nipple flashing I can't seem to concentrate on reading any of your posts anymore. What does the good wife think about you showing off your private parts (I guess I can assume it's not hers?)

That one is not my nipple. Mine is kept private.

A breakdown of costs will follow - just have to change the avatar. That nipple IS off-putting.

OK Nipple has gone, so here's a breakdown of parts and cost. I can't give an indication as to how much time it's taken, but I would say that 90% of the work is thinking about what I want and preparation, and 10% is the actual doing. This rig I've been working towards for at least 3 months (as long as I've have this blasted cough). If I have all the parts to hand, then I can build a vibrating adapter in a couple of day (that includes waiting for the glue to dry).

So here's the details (prices include postage; double the price for US$):

Camera £660 (bought shortly after launch)
    Velbon D600 tripod £35 (eBay)
    Nikon Extension Tubes £10 (eBay)
Canon EE-S focusing Screen £22 (eBay)
    Vibrating gg holder £50 (jetsetmodels.info)
    Motor £10 (jetsetmodels.info)
    Battery box £1.50 (Maplin)
Battery compartment (sits in the box) £1 (Maplin)
    Resistor £0.50 (Maplin)
Polarising filter (used to rotate adapter) £10 (Jessops)
43-58m Step up ring £6 (ebay)
    Nikon Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens £60 (eBay)
    Manfrotto 293 support £50 (eBay)
    Telephoto lens support £20 (eBay)
    1:1 gear mechanism £16 (Maplin)
Gear cog #1 £5 (Model shop)
52-62mm step up ring (to fix matte box to lens) £5 (Jessops)
Matte box £FREE! (from a professional photographer acquaintance)

    So, a little under £1000.

As for the matte box, I don't know much about it. It was given to me by a professional photographer I'm acquainted with. It's made by Cromatek. It can be expanded and contracted, filters/gels can be inserted, it can be rotated. There's not much more I can say.

Any more questions about either the nipple or the rig?

    Worley,

Where did you get the vibrating GG holder from? Also would greatly appreciate if you could divulge the source and price of the GG itself (didn't find it on your list!)

    Cheers!

@Duketh, the nipple came from a picture I found on Wikipedia. Search for nipple piercing. One of the picture is of a pierced gentleman.

Since I had mine pierced, I find my wife is less intimate with that side of my body .

@Bimalshr, sorry I neglected to include the focusing screen in the list. It is a Canon EE-S screen. I bought this on eBay for £20. The holder came from www.jetsetmodels.info (Daniel).

I've amended my post and added the source of the components.

I love this rig, why does the darn thing have to vibrate?
You don’t need to repeat this, there is no ceremony any more, everybody is gone and you say this out loud to yourself. I was alone at the time and the time now is always. Always was a word that you used in promises, it is valueless.

    Default upsidedown

just curious if you shoot with an exterior lcd or do you shoot upside down? It looks confusing (the picture of your youngest is upside down in camera ) , or do you use the flip hack?

    None of the above!

I shoot the right way up, with the image upside down, using the small LCD. Which is why none of my footage is perfectly in focus.

I had planned on buying an external LCD, but unfortunately the company I was freelancing with went bust owing me £11,000, so a LCD monitor is very very low on on list of priorities at the moment.

I have no debt, and my sons had a great Christmas. That is all that matters.

I'm not going to dwell on money that never made it to my bank account. There are more important things in the world to worry about.

What matters is that none of my family want for anything, and I can pay the bills.

it was just an unfortunately event, that could not be avoided by the company concerned. Bad government decisions, credit crunch, down turn in the housing market... Sometimes life just throws things at you.

And that's why we are rich beyond mere bank balances.

    We know what's important.
