Default DIY wider Matt box design

Am sure there are tons of comments on matt box.
I have six different mattbox and don't like any of them. Using a WA some of them are not wide enough and the side is visible in the frame.

So, I am building a very wide one and if am successfull it may even have a Cokin P-mount built in or a 4x5 filter option. Am not sure what it will have until I put one together.

The problem is that I needed a vacuum forming machine for the mattbox. So I built one. It only took a month and should be finishing the mold soon. Then, see how my design works out.

I'll keep you guys posted with pictures and video if you're interested.

As an aside, it's matte box.

Unless you have a lot of stray light coming from the sides, or you want to use rectangular gels/filters, you may want to forego a matte box for your wide angle lenses or, at the very least, make/purchase one that has barn doors so that you can selectively block the stray light.

    Default it's done

Thanks for the advice, but my matte box was not wide enough and I saw it in my framing and editing. I think I mentioned in my post.

Anyway, I just made the first one (molded) and looks good.
BTW it has a French Flag as well and 4x4 filter spaces.

I have some pictures, but can't upload here direct.

Would you be interested in selling any one of your matteboxes?

    Thank you for your interest
I was not planning on doing that, but I may consider it on a case by case basis. Should I decide to sell a very limited quantity, it will be posted in the appropriate segment of this forum.

I'll try to upload some pictures today so you can see what it looks like.
Keep in mind that this is a prototype and changes will be made to the mold.

Well I don't even have a wide-angle lens or anything, I just wanted a matte-box I can put right onto my HV20 with step-up rings. I read that you have 6 other matte-boxes but you don't like them. Maybe you could sell one of those?

Sure, I can sell the NON-Wide angle mattebox that will fit your camera.
It's new and never been used. Comes with a 72mm ring. You'd have to get a stepup ring to 72mm. (I have two sets (2) of them complete)

BTW it comes with the French Flag as seen in their page.

I also have a straight-on adapter for the mattebox and you don't have to have a stepup ring. Chose either one of them. If later on you get a wide angle, then I can still sell you the 72mm for the Raynox WA.

Got it from theCinecity.com this is the item: http://www.thecinecity.com/tcc/produ...&cat=26&page=1
and you can have it for $80.00 plus priority mail.
I paid $35.00 for shipment for these....and a higher price.

I'd estimate about $8.00 to 10.00 shipment with insurance in the lower-48 states. If interested send me PM and then give me your address or where you'd like to ship it.

Wow. That is a lot. I thought they cost no more than $50... I think I'll pass, sorry. I just wanted it cause it looks cool. I haven't bought anything for my HV20 besides a UV lens.

Here's the finished unit. Wrinkle finish paint will do the job of keeping light out of the mattebox.

    See other pictures as well.

When you have the final mold tweaked the way you want it, the avid gearheads on this forum would easily make it worth your while to sell these. I'll bet you could even sell just the unpainted hood and a list of parts/paint/directions for an easy profit without killing you on the labor.

Also... on the flickr site... the photos with the chalked cinema quotes, etc. was intriguing... tell us more about that project.

We have it finished and made a bunch for our own use.
Thank you for your comment about making these for sale. Am not sure if people really would be interested to buy it.
However, I may decide later to make a few on a case, by case basis.
If you want a cheaper mattebox thecinecity.com in INDIA has them. We use their unit and discard the actual mattbox and keep the metal frame with our unit.

What everyone need is a device who shoot with multi-cams is a timecode generator and we're actively seeking electronic engineers to design one for us... videographers here in this forum. That device would be considered to as a marketable.
