Default 35mm lens !!!! please help

    hello guys
i want to achieve a film look by using a 35mm lens without any DOF adapters, i mean like a normal lens that is being attached to an SLR camera and i could attach it directly to my hv40 (please cheap one) with a step up ring, please tell me, if there is any method to do that but cheap.never mind if there is no depth of field.
i don't want to end up buying a noisy jag35pro or a poor encenima 35, please help me

    Hey there,
    no problem.
The DOF adapters are mostly for losers anyway.

You can basically weld ANY 35mm lens to the HV40 after removing the pressure-transducing-heat-conducting-magnetic-pulse-coil.

I now offer this as a service for $27.50 plus shipping. And worry not: I take good care of all equipment.
    PAYPAL ONLY though, sorry!

    Here's the procedure:

    Hahahaha...

In case you can't tell, he's joking.

No, there's no practical way to do that and have it work well. The crop factor would make it impossible to use.

Hey, you can use a plain 35 mm lens if you want to shoot blowflies kissing, for instance - just gaffer-tape it to the front of the HV camera! Hope you don't mind the vignetting...

Default I'll be serious...But only for a little while...

To say it plain and basic, there is no way to successfully attach a 35mm lens to ANY fixed lens camera. You could get a 35mm adapter with a static GG, and cut down on the noise, but there is no way you can put a bayonet-mount lens straight onto an HV40.

    That's my two Canadian cents.

Probably ain't such a thing as a totally non-vignetting DOF adapter, at least with all lenses you mount on it.

Yeah, you're limited with focal length to anything above 28mm really.

    Modo35, MekAdapter, Handy35 all don't vignette.

From my experience you have to zoom in at about 30-40% of the zoom range on the ground glass of the dof adapter in order to totally avoid vignetting. The use of an external monitor enables you to get rid of any vignetting because you see the whole frame (the camcorder lcd crops a bit).

I have shot some clips with a 20mm lens on the handy35 with absolutely no vignetting ( ). You could also use a 16mm fisheye with no vignetting too (I don't have one, but have seen clips with it).

I stand corrected. No visible vignetting at 20mm and up on the Handy35... probably applies to other non vignetting adapters as well.

The vignetting is typically due to the camcorder shooting at too wide an angle. You need to zoom in on the image to focus on the area that isn't vignetting. However, the camcorder lacks the minimum focus distance necessary focus on the adapter at such a zoom level. A macro lens (typically called an achromat on this forum) is necessary to achieve the MFD necessary to zoom and focus on the adapter, but many beginners will opt not to purchase a macro lens (probably believe it to be unnecessary. Even then, many people won't zoom in far enough and will shoot their cheap lens wide open, so vignetting will still exist. As was mentioned above, you need to zoom in a fair amount to cut out all vignetting.

The reason why attaching a 35mm lens directly to the camera wouldn't work is because the sensor in the camera is way too small. For instance, if you attached a 50mm lens to a camcorder's sensor, it would have the same effect as zooming in about 80% of the way with the camcorder's built-in lens. The reason why the lens adapter works is because you're recording an area that is much larger than the camcorder's sensor. It has the effect of projecting an area as large as a piece of 35mm film in front of your camera.
