Default I have a question concerning a special effect..

I was hoping someone on the forum would know how to do the trick where it looks like a persons eyes are completely missing, just black holes/ not completley black but giving the illusion of an empty space.

I have seen this done in a few movies, best one I can think of is "event horizon", that is a pretty old movie and it looked pretty good back then.

So if anyone could help me out or guide me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

They talk about this in the extra features on "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".

The videocopilot link above is a good start. Depends on the angle you're doing and whether or not you want to see anything inside those holes. If that's the case you'll probably need to do some 3d modeling.

It could also be done with prosthetics.

Speaking of the prosthetic approach, my fourth or fifth grade Halloween costume consisted of a black hooded robe whipped up in polyester by my dear departed granny and one eye replaced with a burl of scar tissue created by gluing the bowl of a plastic spoon to my face with spirit gum and covering it with mortician's wax. (Yes, I was kind of a weird kid.)

If you don't want to do the whole Andrew Kramer tutorial (which is, anyway, awesome), just by tracking the eyes with After FX and "painting" the eyes black, you can achieve what you asked...

I must say that tutorial is awesome, I watched it a few times, got lost, and got more lost, but wow, it's amazing.

It's a bit scary that you have to know coding to use After Effects - in part of the program the gentlemen goes into code mode and starts doing some fancy calculations, which totaly lost me, but I guess after you use the program for a few years you know how do do all of this stuff.

Its a while since I watched that tut but I dont recall any coding. Just lots of setting up of masks and pick whipping. In fact I dont recall any coding in his tuts.
You mean coding as in Dreamweaver?

In part of the tutorial, he goes to a "code" view, where you see lines of text, and he changes the code to X2 or something, so that part of an effect is multplied by 2 times, and another part is left at 1x effect... to me it looked like coding, like you would see in an html editor, and it looked like pretty advanced line code. I don't recall exactly where he does it, and it only takes him a second to modify it, so it's easy to miss.

He was using AE:s expressions. Pretty powerful stuff, and not THAT hard to get a hang of. You can i.e. link an effect's opacity to a layer's position and stuff like that - and often you don't need to actually type code, you just drag stuff around and AE creates the code automaticly.

Nice, exactly what I was looking for.
But, is there a similar tutorial how to do this in FCS2? I know about the motion tracking and that I saw some tutorial about replacing a video screen in a car with something else, but I need lots of other stuff for this face warping (layers, reversing motion (if it works that way in FCS2 anyway) etc, and would take quite some time to all figure out without tutorial.
