Ouch!
The Avatar BD messes with that too. It was originally shot at native digital 16:9, but was composed for a 2.35:1 matte for theatrical viewing. It was then dumped onto the disc at its original 16:9, so you might notice the subtitles seem awkwardly placed about a third of the way up the screen.
Useless process of the week.
I mean, who cares if the movies has black bar (2.40:1), is the TVs in airplanes are less than 32" anyway?
