Question Audio coming out of one speaker?

I am doing student interviews at my college for a class project. I am using a shotgun mic mounted on a boom pole for audio connected directly my HV30 (dangerous, I know). The thing is, when I get the audio into my editing software (Final Cut Express), the audio only comes out of one speaker.

The main thing I am trying to get out of this thread is to find out if this is a camera problem or not. I am relatively inexperienced with digital video/audio, so I am just trying to figure out if my problem lies with my camera, my mic, or something else. If all I found out is that it is not the camera, that is fine. But if anyone else has any other ideas/tips, please let me know. Thank you!

I'm not sure if Final Cut Express allows this, but just duplicate the sound track, and map it to the other speaker? Its a good way to fake "stereo" sound from Mono microphones.

It's fairly normal, a lot of shotgun mics output audio that way. Like Daniel Rutter said, just duplicate the audio into the other channel.

Wouldn't this duplicate the actual mono input into fake stereo output?

Even simpler than duplicating, is to doubleclick your sound to open the sound window, then drag the channel balance (PAN slider) to mid-position zero...
