Talking HV30 Using Wide Angle Lens

    Hello,
I'm filming all season for a Hockey Team. I will have to make DVDs of every game for coaches and certain players. I will be Editing with Pinnacle Ultimate.
My question is should I purchase the Wide Angle lens filming a sports event in SD
Wide. I planned on reusing tapes and storing the video on my hard drive. At the end of the season I will make a hight lite video. Also, any other suggestions for better video. I'd like to stay SD for Sports except my home video. PW

    1) If you plan to zoom in/out/in/out frequently, don't use one. The only one actually that won't degrade the picture when fully zoomed in is this one: Canon WA lens.
2)Why shooting in SD? Shoot&edit in HD, then export as SD for your DVDs. You'll get much better results: see here.
    3) Bad idea imho. Always keep the tapes, they're so cheap to buy and can save your life if your HDD dies on you! (yeah yeah, it happens!)
    My advices!

I'd use a WA in those tricky corners on a hockey .... (is it called field?)

anyway, use it if you find yourself in a situation where you need extra space and there isn't a physical way to do it, so you have to use the optical wonders of the WA to make it happen :-)

I used it extensively inside trains for instance, where the distance between camera and people sitting was too limited.

    or in tiny rooms

    Default Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info on WA lens. I'll probably just not buy one. I usually shoot from the box. I have alot to zoom to and some can be a great distance. Almost the length of the rink.
The reason I don't record in HD is because I don't think my PC can do the final processing. Even in SD during edit it almost could not finish compiling to burn Master DVD. I use a very large amount of effects & transitions. Would HD be more demanding on my PC? If not, what would you use P30? Thanks PCW

    1) Yeah, of course, because you have 3x more resolution to deal with
    2) You can always use proxies files to edit in SD with you HD captured files. Or just try editing a short HD clip and you'll see if your computer is able to do it or not (what's your PC specs?)

I'd say your best best would be to shoot in HDV (60i) mode as you'll be shooting sports mainly. It's the best option (mostly recommended also) for sports.

tapes are cheap. dont record over them, it will lead to head problems with your camera.

    Thanks,I'll give it a try.
Just one thing though- you said, 60i. Is this better than 30p.
You'll have to excuse me. I'm new to HD.

I think it's well explained here, so you should be able to choose the one that fit most for you.
