when do you need it Azmyth?
I'll try to record it tonight when i'm done at work : at 4am, shouldn't pick up much traffic or noise while recording footsteps in my backyard! I'll try to find a jar as well. I'll PM when done.

    Default Sound Effects - Sample

All right folks, here's what i had in mind when i started the thread:
I'd like to offer something like this : Pack of 5 sounds (fully customizable from all available sounds : not pre-selectionned) for 25$ (i think it's a good price)
I'd offer them without this : totally royalty free = once you've paid for it, you're allowed to do whatever you want with it. I just don't want to do all that work for free.
    Morning Birds Sample - 320kbps
Let me know what you guys think of it

    Question Expensive Pricing?

Yeah, damn right...people are getting paid for gigs (weddings, etc) but i'd rather be recording sound effects, spending time to get exactly what's needed, offering people to record "requested" sounds, in the best available quality (24bit/96khz), offering to choose only the sounds you need compared to pre-selectioned sounds-pack on some websites, or compared to Sony or BBC CD/DVD collection for 400-500$ sets (with liscence restrictions), offering it at a reasonable price and without copyright, liscence or any restrictions in the use = free of any use, you just pay it once and it's YOURS after, which seems like a good 25$ investment to me, then you do what you want with it.

But hey, you're probably right, i should be thinking like Forrest Gump and should also work for free... would you?
Maybe you should also ask Shigeta to give his 35mm adapter...?!?

Let me know if I'm wrong and i'll have this thread closed/locked...

    Completely different.

Any idiot with a microphone and a tape recorder can record sound effects. Why pay for something that you can do yourself?

    1) Why? doing a 35mm adapter is pretty simple: buy the holder, the focusing screen, the step-up ring (macro lens/achromat optional) and the macro extension tubes and you're done...so why paying for it?
    2) Any idiot can do it, that's true. Any idiot with a VHS-C camcorder can shoot something too, then where's the difference you'll ask? In quality i'd say. But if it's not a problem : then problem solved.
    3) Another true point, why did you paid for your shoulder rig when you could have done it yourself with pvc pipes and a 1/4 - M20 screw?

Note : If you think something's too expensive, do you tell the manufacturer his product don't worth it? You probably just try to find something that suits your budget.

Anyway, i don't want to start a fight, if it suits your need/budget, then great, otherwise...seek for free sound effects and be happy with them!

Note: I cannot DIY ANYTHING. Therefor, I would not have been able to build a DIY shoulder rig. Besides, paying to have someone build it for me (cheap) was the only way I was going to get it.

Sure... if people want to pay for something they have no time to do... but it would appear that nobody wants to help those of us who are just starting out. Everyone's in it to make a buck somewhere...

Why pay 25 bucks for 5 sound effects, when I can go to any sound effects website and pay 99c a sound? Note, I can't recall any of these sites... as I only came across them while searching for freebie sounds, but the point is... in 90% of business, cheaper products are more popular than quality.

    1) That's unfortunately true...
    2) I said 25$ but i'm still wondering, how much you guys would expect to pay for it?
    3) Yeah! I know I'm the first to be shopping on ebay for cheap gear. But the point is different here, if audio and video are cheap, then it's not exactly like having a cheap boom pole that works without creaks : Your video will look cheap, and audio will sound cheap.

Anyway, the question is, with the sample i've posted, how much you'd be up to pay for it?
Per file & for a 5pack : that way you don't pay for something you'll never use, you choose what you need only.

Go with the norm... 99c a sound (Per minute, I reckon). Do packs for a few bucks cheaper...

    Thanks (congrats Mr. Legend!)
I'll see with other users too. anyway, i only have 3 recorded to date. (cars passing by, kitchen room tone, morning birds)
    How much for a 5pack you'd say? 20$/5 sounds?

If you're going to sell them for a buck a piece, you'd want to offer a 5 pack for the price of four, or a 20 pack for a pack of 15... so on and so forth.

I dunno, Drape. I think ambient sounds are the hardest to find. Everyday environmental sounds, like large crowds murmuring, street sounds, office sounds, airports, train stations, and the rarest of all, small empty rooms.

What is the name they give to that sound, the "hum" of an empty room?

EDIT: And I would kill for a really good, clean, sweet "lonely wind" sound. All the ones I have are hissy, blustery, and contaminated. And most of them have some microphone rumble.

    .
It is also called constant tones

5 sounds for 25 bucks sounds a little steep. I haven't given that sample a good listen yet, but it seems pretty good. But considering just one scene is gonna need way more than just 5 sounds, I don't think buying from you would be very economical. 99 cents certainly would be a lot more reasonable.

All right, so 1$ per minute will be the price.
Any other suggestions? Sounds requested :
    1) Sweet lonely Wind
    2) Walking/footstep on different surfaces
    3) Jar hitting grass
    4) That impalment sound
    5) Wilhelm Scream (if you were serious lol) But i could record some scream, got a good friend of mine, a girl, who could scream like in the horror movie. Should at least give it a try.

I'll try to get some more requests before starting a "FS - Sound Effects" thread. - Just let me know guys.

Sweet - came across that searching for ESL plays! I need some simple yet interesting plays for my Thai students. I have almost the entire BBC Sound FX collection on a harddrive if anyone is interested...

Default 10 Free Sound Effects I Share With HV20.com Folks

I had nothing else to do so I decided to record some sounds and share them with the folks here.
Sorry for the MegaUpload link (...it's free and works well), hv20.info isn't working at the moment.
    I'll ask for a replacement/post edit/addition when it'll work again.

10mb .zip file containing the following:
    01 - Freezer.mp3
    02 - Various Footsteps,mp3
    03 - DishWashing Machine in action.mp3
    04 - Neon Buzzing [short].mp3
    05 - Stove.mp3
    06 - Ceiling Fan.mp3
    07 - Neon Buzzing.mp3
    08 - Refrigerator.mp3

    MegaUpload Link

Files recorded with my ZoomH2 in 24/96 .wav, then compressed to .mp3 320kbps CBR 16/48 with tags.
It's not "WOW" but it can help to create the soundtrack. I'll try to record some roomtone later this week. Feel free to ask what you'd like to get.

Mods: I hope it doesn't go against some rule, if so, just delete the post, i'll reupload the file using the hv20.info when it will work again.

    Anyone?
I'll try to record the sound of a train passing by. There's one everyday at 2pm. Maybe I'll check for a river sound, as there's one nearby where I live.
    Anything else guys?

Those footsteps could come in handy! I wouldn't mind having more of those. Thanks Drapes. I wish I could share some stuff too right now, but I will here eventually.
